Exquisite Focus Crystals and Biotech Conductors as a Mission Reward

I've done a few "fetch us this stuff" missions since getting back from Beagle Point, noted that some factions offer the two items mentioned in the subject line as a reward. I know that in a lot of cases they can ONLY be collected as a mission reward.

On every single mission that offers them the item is always greyed-out. Is there some "thing" I've not done yet to make that a reward? A newer engineer, maybe? Do I need to obtain something related to them first?

BTW, I assume Biotech Conductors are probably related to Thargoid guts.

If you have Biotech Conductors at 98/100 and you get a mission reward with 3 Biotech Conductors, it will appear as grey and you wont be able to pic the reward.
This is a bit counter-intuitive, but that's how it works. You'd need a mission reward for 2 units to be able to top up.

However, if you scoop the materials from SRV or from the Ship, you will be able to top up without any issues (as in being at 99/100 would allow you to pick a material, even tho that material has 3 units... the surplus will be discarded)

I thought about that before posting. This is the odd part about this problem: I don't have any of either material. I've checked it twice and once more before posting this response. I thought maybe I missed it and went down the list one material at a time.

I have 0 Exquisite Focus Crystals in my inventory.
I have 0 Biotech Conductors in my inventory.
Unless they're too high for me to see them, or they're invisible because they're too close to the ground.
That's why I was wondering if I need to unlock some engineer for them first or not.

You can choose the mission and complete it, but you can't choose the reward although you have zero inventory of each? That's a bug.

Are you sure you've got zero of each? Did you turn the filters off?

if you're in a wing mission, i think you cannot share the reward material with wingmate (only credit are shareable/cashable)

That was my intial theory but needed to verify first in case there was an engineer that needed to be unlocked first.

Just checked, no filter active, all boxes to check are empty.

Nope, these two missions were a "single pilot only" type of mission.

I'm thinking "bug" for both of these. As I recall they were both grade 5 rarity. I have one mission I'm getting stuff for that has Modified Embedded Firmware (rarity is also grade 5) so I'll find out within the next 30 minutes if there is an issue with just the two materials mentioned or if there's something else going on. Stay tuned.

UPDATE:
Ok, just completed these two missions that offered materials, Divergent Scan Data level 4 was ok, Modified Embedded Firmware rarity level 5 was also ok, so this issue seems to be just the two items in my subject line.

biotech conductors arent related to goids, but goids give both biotech conductors and exquisite focus crystals as a reward all the time when you can snag missions for them

Well, it's still odd that I can't accept them as a mission reward. I'm wondering if they're actually supposed to BE a mission reward at all, based on what you've indicated.

Biotech are for long range G5 weapons, while exquisite crystals are for G5 charge enchanced PD.

Those are rarely drop by Npc's anacondas, vettes and cutters. But its way more reliable to search missions that offers them, as seems that grade 5 materials drop rates had gone lower by recent updates.

At My usual spot, assasination/massacre missions offers these very often, preety much all the time. I dont pick them anymore, taking credits instead. Even yesterday, I had completed few missions like that, and could get those materials, if was not greyed out for me. Only cargo rewards are greyed for me, as my ships rarely uses cargo racks.

Well, unfortunately, both items are being offered as a mission reward and not available for me, which is the reason for my thread. I'm trying to find out why they're a mission reward but they're greyed-out when I complete the mission and therefore can't collect them.

Do You maybe need to " discover" them first? The first time you get a material it plays a little sound and a yellow icon thing flashes in the middle of the screen telling you that you found something you had never found before. No idea if this affects mission rewards but it's the only thing I can think of.

it has nothing to do with any engineer

if you have 0 of both and they are greyed out it is either a bug or you are not in horizons or edo.

fwiw kills can drop EFC but not BTC.
BTC is mission reward only

you do not have to discover in order to receive as a reward
normal is it would only be greyed out because you do not have space for them.

I suggest you try such a mission in horizons to see first. I don't see where if any where you mentioned which game.
but edo is buggy
and ed without horizons has no engineers and has no BTC.

A bug is very likely
since recent patches have made a number of items in horizons not work or not work correctly , it could easily be a new bug or old bug re-surfaced.

They are offered as mission reward if you have high enough Rep with the faction - being allied is usually the thing.
IF they are offered to you as mission reward, but they are grey and you cannot pick them as reward - it means that you are full (as you can see below, i'm full on BC, 100 being the cap)

Check your right panel or if you are syncing your account with inara, check inara (Inventory and Outfitting, Inventory, Components by type)
