External Cam and Flyby Cam

*just want to make that more public and focus it on external cam* it's from another tread.

LET ME MAKE 1 THING CLEAR!

All these restricitons about the external camera, the, 'No, we can't even have an external camera because the immersion break', the, 'No, the ext. cam has to be very limited' etc. etc. etc.

I'm so fed up with it.

FOR ME!

I'd like to see an external cam that works like in other games.
I'd like to get a flyby cam so I can shoot cool videos of ship fleets passing that camera - very cinematic
I'd like to see that FDev implements camera movements that follow a specific path so you get enabled to do some cool cinematic 'dramatic' flybys

etc. etc.

I was arguing for months that we need an external cam. And it took ages. Then we got it and it was simply fantastic. It's a game changer. When I hover above a moon in my Corvette, switch to external cam, fly around that beautiful ship with a fantastic looking planet in the background, enjoying the scene ... That is fantastic! Awesome! Great! That gives me the best moments that I currently have with the game.
I switched from 2D to the Oculus Rift 2 months ago. I can't tell you how great the game looks in external cam mode, staying next to a station (the ones with the long rotating tubes) and just watching. A friend of mine came to see the Rift and he knows Elite. I showed him some "scenes" like the ones I described. He didn't want to play. He was just moving around with the external view and looking around, his mouth open and just saying 'wooooow!' all the time.

I wonder that FDev, as the developer of the game, does not take this feature and enhace it, push it even further. This is a selling point for the game. But, as we all realised, FDev is not good at marketing their game very weel. Roberts is lightyears ahead of that. He makes 10 x more money with a game that even doesn't exist. Elite is there, it's great but it get's sold way underneath it's real potential.

So, THE EXTERNAL CAMERA WAS NOT IMMERSION BREAKING and ENHACING IT'S FEATURES WILL NOT BREAK THE IMMERSION AS WELL. A FLYBY CAM WOULD NOT BE IMMERSION BREAKING.

It just ENHANCES the game by a factor of 10!

END OF DISCUSSION FOR ME! :::)

Ok, but maybe we could put a delay on it, vote anyone?

Seriously, I've never seen the immersion argument, but some claim there could be a PVP tactical advantage.

To be honest I want a replay mode like in Fifa where it effectively has all angles on record so you can re-play the incident at your leisure afterwards and sort the camera and that out then. I doubt it will ever be possible in ED but we can but hope.

Camera improvements to non-combat scenarios would be great, especially for the budding Spielbergs out there. As soon as there is Combat though these cameras need to be like the current one, that is completely useless.

As an Elite Dangerous video maker, I would also like to see a fly-by camera and the external camera having a free-look mode using the mouse (for speed). Having the ships functions work during this would also be a plus.
I don't see how doing this would either break immersion or be an advantage in PvP. In PvP, who's even got the time to use ext. cam ??

This will make for some much more spectacular videos which, in turn, can only help promote the game even more as people watch the footage as they drool over a Corvette melting it's prey :)

Not sure why it should be about immersion, its a gamedesing decision. Some games want you to be in first person, some in third person, some let you choose - nothing wrong with any of that. Sure, the debug came could need some improvments but if FD don't really want the game to be playable in debug cam then that is a valid gamedesig decision.

But its gonna be interessting to see what they are doing with debug cam and Multicrew. Maybe a crew memeber can go debug cam filming the ship while another one does the flying, who knows.

Yes times 100. ED is such a beautiful game, yet has one of the worst cameras. It's frustrating. PvP advantage is hardly a meaningful argument, there's no balance there anyway.

No actually they need a full 3rd person view including during combat, that way the people who use it during combat will die quickly just like in any other combat sim and people would stop parroting this rediculous argument. Every hardcore sim out there has 3rd person view and anyone who uses it during combat learns their lesson quick. Silly argument that has been going on forever. Most people want a 3rd person option, hence why it's in almost every game. This isn't even a hardcore sim, it's a mostly arcade game and I would suggest that if FD ever released the stats, most people in this game NEVER engage in pvp.

Never seen the immersion argument too.

For PvP FD could block the external cam when HPs are deployed, problem solved.
