Extra backpack space mod question.

Hi,

I put the extra backpack space mod on my Maverick, and see the inventory space has all doubled, except Consumables? I thought those also increased? They are exactly the same as before. 1 med pack, 2 charges, 2 e breaches and so on. Isn't consumables supposed to increase as well with this mod?

Thanks for the help.

Mod description mentions consumables but the blueprint properties are:
Data capacity +100%
Component capacity +100%
Item capacity +100%

Either a bug or outdated description...

Consumables, might be a subject to other modification if any. For me it make sense to fall into increased ammo capacity.

Regardless, increased backpack capacity is good. Now, I do not need to run back and forth to unload after each building or leave some items because they are common and I have no space.

Nice forum feature - when you're starting a new thread, the search function finds already existing ones.

Anyway, I too have a question about extra backpack space. I'm interested whether the mod is worth it at all.

Two weeks ago the answer seemed a very straightforward "YES!", now I'm not so sure any more. I've been emptying settlements like crazy and cursing the low space available, mostly working towards unlocking engineers and gathering mats to enhance it so that I could carry MOAR before delivering to the SRV/ship.
Then, suddenly I'm unable to enter the SRV. After the initial shock I realized that there is a 1000 items threshold and I've hit it... Now my crazy gathering more or less stopped, only taking what I need/high tier mats/goods. And since I more or less CAN apply the upgrade, I'd love to hear how useful it is after you've filled "your holds". Other upgrades seem much more useful if you're not in full gatherer mode, especially since Maverick seems to be the most useful all-arounder in settlements and I very rarely use any other suit. Any opinion much apreciated.

Game Management!!

Yes, the extra backpack space is quite handy, but quickly redundant if you don't manage your inventory of stuff you 'aquire'.

Easily resolved by keeping tabs on what your item levels are & what/how many to sell to the barkeep to keep space in your backpack for upcoming raids.
This ensures that you'll make excellent use of your backpack mod AND not have the problem of being stood outside your Ship, dumping stuff on the floor ;)

It is good, but it you are close to the caps, suddenly it isn't that good anymore

The problem is not the mod itself but the 1000 caps and the micromanagement that is needed permanently once you get close to the cap (mainly for Assets and Data)
I have 2 Maverick suits - one of them has the extra backpack mod, but it was my second Maverick i got to G5 - so i dont value that mod as important enough to be put on my main suit
For me, most important mods are Quiet Footsteps, Extra Battery and/or Reduced Tool Consumption and NightVision
So i have all these 4 mods on my main Maverick, while for the second one i traded night vision for extra backpack

Consumable are not accounted for in the mod. Wether or not this is an intended feature or a bug, as once my dearest in-game friend said, it's a matter between Braben and the NPCs.

Apparently phone users cannot see my signature; I've put together a cheat sheet based on other's work, here:

Odyssey Engineering Chet Sheet

Basically sell all items that don't have a 'Y' in the 'Useful' column; that should help you strip down considerably.

Once you've done that, check against each item and set limits - for example, Blood Test Results are only required for Headshot Damage; so I set myself a hard limit of 10 with that (even though I don't immediately want that mod), and sell the rest.

Another thing to do is trade up items that you want like Circuits and Tech; when I was after Titanium or Carbon Fiber Plating, I would trade (for example) excess Scrambler, Transmitter and Optical Lenses after setting hard limits of say 20 for each. That way I got loads of Plating items for my suit mods.

After a while you begin to get a good memory for what is what. That should help you out, I hope!

I believe that backpacks are an early career mod. Once substantial collection has been done and the inventory is getting full, then this mod takes up space that might be wanted for other things. An option might be to buy a G3 suit, add the back pack and one of the battery mods and use that suit sole for early gathering. Have a second suit to upgrade and mod with things for later game use.
