Horizons Extra firepower tactic for NPC's?

On a number of encounters involving NPC Anacondas, most recently in a HIRES, there is an interesting sequence happening.

Upon engaging said single Anaconda (usually Elite), I can hear the sound of a ship dropping down from hyper and I am suddenly engaged by a second unknown ship, visible on the scanner.

I usually continue to engage the Anaconda until it pops and then I turn my attentions to this second ship.

However, as soon as the Anaconda is down, this second ship disappears from the scanner, no wake signature that I have seen.

Again, there is no wing involved, single engagement.

No video, but I will try to catch it in the future on one.

Has anyone else observed this?

You could be right, but does the fighter self destruct if the mother ship is lost? I guess they do, because they are remotely controlled, I don't use them, and I always wrongly seem to think they have local control pilots.

I am also going to engage the 2nd ship the next time it happens and confirm your suggestion, if it is a fighter, then question solved.

But your conjecture doesn't explain the sound signature, or is the sound I am hearing the sound of a fighter launch?

Update:

I just had an Elite Anaconda interdict me and a had a clear view of the fighter launch, it matched the sound signature on deployment (it got away from me and even recovered the fighter before bugging out, good AI behavior for a change).

These weren't that common before but now they seem to be a frequent thing, thanks for your post.
