This implies that inter-jurisdictional arrangements are - by 21st century standards - extremely weird.
The Sirius officers attacking Meene were committing crimes in Meene territory against Meene assets.
Cartesius attacked an Alliance citizen inside an Alliance courtroom in the Alliance capital
Both have been extradited (as what appears to be a completely routine and expected thing!) back to the jurisdiction they are citizens of to face trial there - rather than being kept in the jurisdiction where:
- the crimes occurred
- the evidence is
- the judges and lawyers familiar with the details of the local laws broken are
- the victims of the crimes have an interest in justice being done
Presumably as an automatic omnidirectional custom all governments find it more convenient to be able to cover up and forgive their own offences than to punish the offences of their enemies?
(It would explain why the detention centres just let commanders go, since it's hardly going to be worth extraditing them to whatever easily bribable jurisdiction they've got a citizenship of convenience for)
