Extremely unhappy with new launcher, cannot even play anymore

Hi,

I really liked the previous launcher. At least you got a working window where you could at least access some settings even if something did not work!

Now I fired up the new launcher after a long game break in VR (which might have caused the issue in the first place, who knows). Worked fine.

Yet when starting the game now in non-VR mode it shows "busy" and at some point times out with an unhandled exception error "HRESULT: 0x80072EE4". I already logged out of the launcher (what a pain to get back in, it did not accept the code but eventually did when I ignored the message and restarted the launcher). For some reason the launcher shows up in German (my Windows is German) even though I set the Game in Steam to English. Same goes for the ingame language. Very annoying. It feels very unfinished and makes me wonder why they abandonded the previous launcher...

Anyway, how do I get to start the game and get past this horrible launcher now? :/

After narrowing down the causes (even wiping everything of ED's file existence in all locations) this fixed it for me:

"The problem is that the registry key pointing to the user's Temporary Internet Files cache is gone. If you look in Internet Explorer 11 under Internet Options -->General and click settings under browser history there will be nothing under "current location" and a disk space to use of zero."

This exactly matched what I found in my internet options settings even though the folder on the disk does exist but the folder setting within internet options was empty. However, the suggested registry settings were correct. So what I did was that I changed the temporary internet files locations from within the internet options interface to some custom folder in my user directory I created, gave it 50 MB space (which then switched to 300). Windows asks you to log out and back in. Afterwards the launcher works.

So all in all, the launcher most likely tried to cache data in the folder that for some reason existed but was no longer set in internet options (must have been some windows voodoo since I never touched that) and then crashes. This also explains why it worked with VR as the launcher is somewhat skipped as the game launches without any additional interaction.
