F1 2016

Finally i found the game that may (may) just get me out of ED for a while, new F1 announced with immersive 10 year career mode and safety car return, also our last chance to get an F1 game without the new ugly halo protection device. Any other F1 fans here as buzzed as i am ?

Never noticed this thread before, or would have piped up.

Love F1 myself.

The Halo has not been finished yet, has it? I don't like the Ferrari one. I think it is Red-Bull, that looks like a curved, plastic screen.

I think the thing is with F1 and safety, it is like an obsession to get it 100% Which is close to impossible, but the mind-set is in the right place. Max, once said. You can't stop the accidents, cars on the edge, in every respect, will break; but that should not mean, the driver gets hurt. This mind-set and drive, means, drivers being killed, through contact because of open     -pits. Has to be addresses and no one wants, closed     -pits, in F1. It will be interesting to see, what comes out, at the end of testing.

I understand safety....but even Lauda and Brundle say it's gone too far, fans will leave the sport in numbers if these ugly things are used, and in any case, motor racing is supposed to be a dangerous thrill, for the fans and the drivers, and how come no ones proposing halo protection for the MOTO GP or Isle of man TT ? Because it's ridiculous. No one wants deaths in any motor racing, but F1 safety is allready fine, it has been since after Senna, the reason Bianchi died was because of the idiots putting machinery on circuit, that's the only thing needing to be sorted out.

Henry Surtees 2009 hit by a wheel. Justin Wilson again, hit by a wheel in 2009, not F1 but, F" and Indy-car. Barachelo hit by a spring. So as far as safety is concerned, this is the next step, or project.

I get what you are saying about motorcycle racing, but they are always trying to reduce the risks, there as well.

As too Bianchi: He was driving too fast and nothing will change my mind on that. It was wet, there were double yellow flags and he had passed two sets, at a bind corner, before he went off of the track. If that car was on the track, he would have run into it or run off of the track. He was driving too fast for the conditions; he skidded off of a wet track. Add to that, single waved yellows, mean slow down, double waved yellows, mean really slow down. He didn't. Yes the dirty great big earth mover, was in the wrong place, at the wrong time and I believe, they could shield those things with new foam arnco barriers they use now, just make skirts out of the stuff. His going under the earth mover, is another reason, to think about head impacts.

I think Lauda and Brundle, were talking about lack of driver fear, due to confidence in safety. Meaning that they have no real worries about having a crash, therefore they sometimes, do stupid things or take chances, because getting it wrong, is no longer a risk to themselves. Such as run off areas; means breaking too late, is ok, as the run off area is there. Brundle, was the first real test of the higher driver-pit sides and the foam padding they remove to get out of the cars. He rolled his Jorden about four times and took the thing apart big time. He not only walked away, he got into the spare car and raced. The years before, he would have probably died.

The rude word thingy won't let me use the name of the place the driver sits.

I'm a huge F1 fan, have been since the days of Jochen Rindt and JYS. I love F1 racing games, been playing them since Chequered Flag on the ZX Spectrum and Revs on the BBC :)
My 'god' of F1 games is the great Geoff Crammond, his F1GP, Grand Prix 2,3,4 games, are the only games other than Elite that I put literally thousands of hours into.

I'm not a huge fan of the Codemasters games as they seem way too arcadey for me, although I have bought most of them, last years was the first one I didn't buy as I read there was no career mode and that is the only mode I ever play, so no point buying it.

However.. if this is true and this years has a new career mode and now 10 years rather than 5, it's a 'day one' buy for me! ..even though there are some parts of the codies games that I dislike. apart from being too 'arcadey', the crash/damage system is utterly abymal, the suspension arms are indestructible and yet have a gentle crash again a barrier and a wing mirror flies off without anything near it. lol, dumb. also I do wish we had random failures, I know they leave that out as the 'millenials' need to winwinwin and cannot cope with ever losing anything, but I liked that feature in the GP series. sure it was a royal pain when you had engine failure whilst leading with 3 laps to go but its realism and I like that.

Still, I'll look into the new one and will get it if it does have a new career mode. (I wish you could edit driver/team names in those games like you could with the GP series. I miss that a lot)

I really can get on with F1 games, but then I really love the TOCA games and using the car in front as a breaking point was part of the TOCA art. The GRID games are ok, but no where near the fun of their first stuff. With F1 games, I just take off the wheels, within a lap or two. Not good.

I remember both Brundle and Lauda saying that they did not like the halo or screen protection, the other safety measures i'm sure everyone agrees on.

Other than sony F1 2006 CE, CM F1 Games are all i know, my. dad is always telling me how Geoff Crammond was the best and now things are too arcade, but i'm happy with career mode immersion. Also, i agree on random failiures, i myself don't like to win (unless it's properly earned) so the more realism (immersion not driving simulation for me) the better.

I have to say that I really value anything that Brundle has to say on the subject; however, I have not heard a lot from the man, as I don't have Sky and really miss his input, as he is a really good commentator.

It doesn't matter whether Jules was or wasn't driving too fast when he went off and went under the crane. What mattered was the race should not have been started in the first place due to the weather which meant the medical helicopter was grounded and the ambulances would not reach the nearest hospital in the time mandated by FIA's own rules. In addition the safety car was not deployed soon enough, waved yellows single or double are insufficient when a crane is deployed and really the race should have been Red Flagged as soon as the crane was deployed.

In other words it was not the fault of Jules that he died but the fault of FiA and owners of the track (Honda).

I got rid of SKY last month, they really take the buscuit with pricing, i miss Brundle allready, but Channel 4 have Azerbaijan live this weekend, Eddie Jordan included i think (if he's not presenting flop gear).

I sunk waaaaaaay to many hours into this with friends when I were a lad... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One_(1985_video_game)

And I've still got Geoff Crammond's games on t'shelf. :)
I think i remember my dad talking about playing that one from 85 with his mates, bit before my time though lol. Geoff Crammonds however i think i have seen in action and if i'm not mistaken, codemasters AI still has a lot to learn from it.
