F1 Manager 2023 suggestions

Hi guys! First of all this game is incredible, honestly a massive well done to the team! The only reason I'm bothering to give feedback is because I hope this game continues year after year and im obsessed with it. So please don't take this as a complaint but things I believe would be great to see added in the future, whether in the game next year or with any updates.

1)When a driver locks up they come to a complete stop rather than continuing and getting back on track. Even a slow re-entry to get back onto the track as fast as possible would be good.

2)Similar to above, when a car is overtaking and get squeezed they tend to almost stop rather than slow down and back off a bit.

3)Overtaking seems to be an issue at times, my driver can be behind a car, get DRS and rather than speed past my driver will sit behind them when all they have to do is move an inch or 2 either side to get past. The same occurs if you time the weather correctly and get onto intermediate tyres and come up to another car on wrong tyres, there's heaps of room to go around but they just sit behind them.

4) It would be cool to have to time pit releases, this would throw in an element of penalties for incorrect releases and the car wouldn't be stuck waiting for a large gap.

5)Introduce interviews that could affect your team and create rivalries. Maybe throw in an element that drivers also do interviews and you have to deal with it when they say the wrong thing. Have pressure put on you to hire/fire drivers and staff for behaviour off track and poor performance.

6)Creating your own team or the ability to switch teams has been mentioned but that would be cool.

7)Team disputes such as drivers not getting along or drivers complaining when 1 is getting favoured over the other.

8)Rather than using generic female drivers include the W series drivers.

9)Introduce protests into the game to be able to initiate them and defend them.

10)This is right outside the box but to add to the immersion have the option for players to use an app on their phones, which acts like your in game phone, this could be linked to the game so they both interact. Here you could send a message to drivers before or after a race to increase moral, if you let go of a driver you could get a call saying thankyou and goodluck. Or if a player is away from the console they could arrange a new design, receive emails and do some scouting. Again I'm not sure if this is possible but would be quite unique.

The following are more cosmetic and don't take away from the gameplay, i wouldn't be fussed about them if it took anything away from gameplay.

1) When they go into the garage during practice, have the team come out and reverse them in like in real life. It's odd seeing them drive straight into the garage.

2) Add more flair after a win, have more crew members celebrating with your driver when they get out of the car and the other 2 cars stop along side and their teams celebrating with them too. Maybe bring in the Shoey when Ricciardo wins, different podium reactions.
2b) Please have Ricciardo available next year :)

3) More refined graphics during cut scenes in the garage before each session and during the race/when the driver makes a mistake or overtakes another car.

4) Use the actual trophies from each race rather than the current generic trophies.

5) More radio audio.

6)Crash animations that are more realistic.

7) Allow reserve drivers faces to be shown in game, also other team principals and staff. The mechanics for example are recognisable to F1 fans. This isn't to say bring them all in for 3D scanning but even a resemblance from photos would be cool.

One thing i would remove is the clip of the team celebrating after a race when your drivers finished way lower than they should have done .IE my McLaren drivers messed up spinning and finished 17th and 18th but you still get the clip of the team in the garage celebrating and applauding them . A way to see before the race what tyres the opposition are starting on and probable pit strategies

Also do away with the clip of the driver getting out of the car and throwing out the neck support unless you finished on the podium and see them celebrating

Also before each race a bit of info about what updates your competitors have brought out new .

It really bugs me as well if i save up spare soft tyres , unused one often get returned to Pirelli and often i am left only with part used ones for the race , why not return those instead of new unused

Moving your team to correct position in the pit lane based on where they finished the previous season seems to have been too obvious for any developer that actually follows f1 to have missed

also it sucks that year on year you can’t do anything to improve your pit crew

1 . Sponsor negotiations and choose where on the car the sponsor will be (depend of the size of sponsor money) and merchandise sales
2. Interviews
3. Create own team
4. Be able to lead F2 and F3 teams
5. Future contracts with drivers and staff

As above, I think sponsor negotiations and choice of where the branding will go, etc. Create own team is something I didn't think was important in the beginning, but it became apparent early on that the dream of creating your own team and negotiationg with sponsors, etc, would elevate this to another level and further longevity. Speaking of longevity, how about being able to customise the track order? I know this possible via a mod, but I play on PS5. Maybe even throw in a randomize track order option.

As stated, being able to lock in future contracts for the following season would be much more realistic. As things stand, it's a bit silly. F1 operates on negotiations all season long, but especially from mid-season.

Lose the slider game during practise. It's ridiculous. There has to be a better, more immersive way than this to optimize the car for the race.

Cars can unlap themselves (giving up on this being fixed in this release).

Lose the game commentary bites or improve them greatly. As things stand, they're repetitive and often make little sense. No-one wants to hear Crofty bleating on about a car running only slightly wide like it's the greatest drama in the world -- a dozen times during one race.

Car models should look slightly different between teams, reflecting reality.

New car aero updates should look slightly different, reflecting the new design.

Car engine sounds should change if you change supplier. Right now, teams seem to be locked to the one sound (maybe this has been sorted? I know it was a thing).

Young drivers start at too low a level. Some should start higher, based on natural talent stats (some kind of randomizer could take place for game generated drivers). Look at the way real-world Verstappen or Leclerc came out of the gate. The way this game operates, neither would have reached the way they currently perrform - and have for a couple of years now - until they're almost 30.

I know a lot of this has already been echoed - if not all of it. But it's worth reiterating.

Hi,
For the first iteration, it is a good game engine but as a football manager hardcore, there are a few quality-life improvements I like to see.

1) More Data and History
  • To see all the past positions per season of the constructors and drivers (across how many years even 50)
  • To see every head-to-head, for such a big stat in real life, it is a must for you to see your own team head-to-head and other constructors head to head
  • I want to be able to see head-to-head against myself and Toto Wolf

2) Ability to move teams or be offered a deal in a new team and stay in the same 'career'/'world'
- I won the constructors with Alpine 3 times and I wanted a new challenge, but I can leave without starting a new save

3) There needs to be the starting grid lineup before a Grand Prix
- I can't see where my rivals are before a race - can only see post qualifying

I truly love F1 Manager, now that does not mean the game cannot improve, obviously after a first version, which i truly love and enjoy, there is plenty of potential and room for improvement.

Notes:

First i will exclude any addition like creating a team/Manage a F2-F3 team. First because i dont care much, second, because this game is F1 licensed, and all about F1. I mean no one complain of Madden being NFL only so i consider this out of topic. If you want to play F2/F3 go to the excellent MM.

Then, in 116 hours of game I (honestly) did not have major glitch and never (not a single time) had a blocking issue. So for me i consider the game stability as granted and one of the main strength in a game where sometimes you play 90mn without a save. This game is rock solid when it comes to stability and I expect it to remain as such.

So if we focus on F1 Manager improvements wish list for 23 version.

This is what I would list

More statistic content
One of the main limit i see in the game is the lack of statistics and data.
  • We loose practice data during a race weekend, while in fact testing tyre condition is important.
  • For a race we can only see previous season results.
I think the game needs to keep a much better record of what the user is doing and improve the record of game history.

(More statistic content) Especially for drivers
We dont have any driver stats during the season. why not keep the number of overtake, defence, ... which we get at end of the race.
There is no record for the driver of the number of incidents he creates during races.
There is a glitch, all races are marked as completed so we should get a more reliable record.
This includes F2/F3 drivers. Ok this game is all about F1 but why can we not have F2/F3 stats like 2K gives minor league stats if you need them. It could help assessing a prospect value.

More staff details
Something similar a bit to FM player expectations would be beneficial for staff.
I think the director and aerodynamic lead roles should be expanded for more imerssion.
They could suggest improvements or way to improve the car and get frustrated if you ignore them to the point to not resign/leave your team.
I would like to really hire scouts and Pit team staffs.
There could be a kind of cohesion rating in the Pit team for instance with an impact on their effectiveness or morale.

More variety in accident during GP
We need more variety of accidents.
I mean for a given GP, over the weekend, all accidents always happen at the same place. With the exact same pattern
So we have accident and frequency is good but the way they happen live during a race is too often the same and it deteriorate immersion (in an otherwise extremely immersive game).

More technical incidents during GP
In a full season, outside of accidents, if not using motor pieces with less than 5% i never ever saw or had any issue with any kind of piece.
it would be good to have pieces issues which force you to stop or even abandon during races just like we do in Codemnaster F1.

Enhance car setup
Car setup in this game is too limited.
First car setup has an impact on tyres and this should be reflected in the game.
Second there should be an impact of weather on the setup.
Last I am not sure as race director we should be involved in the details of the setup itself.

So we may imagine a system where the driver has an attribute/skill to setup its car with his engineer.
As team director we should give guidance regarding what type of aspect we want to favour (dry vs wet, speed vs control, tyre usage...).
Then between driver and engineer (based on chemistry and skills) and depending on how we run practices they should end with a better/worse setup result.
And that setup result should influence in the race performance depending on weather and influence tyres usage.
At the very least the system should be reviewed, i think it is the main limitation in the game at the moment.

AI improvement for car development
I think the main flaw for AI is the lack of efficiency in the car development.
AI should get improved in its path to develop cars.
Best case there could be different approaches to do so depending on team lead directors.

AI improvement for races
Overall in races AI is doing fairly well, now I had couple of instances, mostly with specific race condition (accident, rain), where AI made very questionable pit stops.
Once for instance I had a couple of AI teams which had a pit stop while we were like 5 laps before the end and they had a pretty good position.
This does not happen often but may worth a look.

Allow capacity to change team
As team director i should have a contract and ability to change eventually team.
Since we can get fired we could as well earn promotion...
A mod exists but this should be a base feature for offline.

Make F1 manager a legendary game: Online (users) league
If you allow 1 to 10 users to run an online (private) league.
Each one controlling one team.
This would be very similar to online franchise mode in Madden or myNba online in 2K.
This would eventually save efforts on AI development.
This game would become a pure legend if you add such a feature.

So here is my list.

For me if we return to the same track as we raced on the year before we should be able to use the setup from the previous year as a starting point . The sliders idea to me is a complete mess

The only problem with having multiplayer in a game like this is , all the teams would have to start equal which wouldnt be realistic , then getting players who can all commit to a season of full length or half length races at the same time and qualifying , then some dropping out because they are not winning

For contract negotiations, it would be good to have an idea what the driver wants or expects. It would be good if when a contract offer is rejected, you would get a counter offer, and then it would be a real negotiation. not just rejecting the offer and it's up to you to adjust the terms without having any idea how far you are. and later they don't want to sign with you anymore. it would also be good to be to offer contracts that start in the future, i would like to start negotiations with a prospective driver early and not have to replace your current driver in the middle of the season but for the next season, when their contract expires or when your current driver's contract expires.
