FA-Off Docking in Different Ships

So... just got an adder after flying around in my sidewinder and eagle for the longest time. I thought I was pretty decent at FA-Off docking, but now I'm bouncing around the slot and scraping up the landing pad. I know it's a learning curve, but does FA-Off docking continually get harder with larger ships? Just wanted to know if I'm going to feel like a FA-Off noob again every time I switch ships.

Bit of a personal skill background: Beta backer who has played a couple hours each week off and on since the Beta. I'm still in starter craft because I haven't focused on credit grinding at all. Not yet at the level of FA-Off combat or cargo scooping, but using it in every other scenario.

By the way, FA-Off is probably one of my favorite mechanics. I'm just too afraid to use it in combat, and too impatient to learn how to scoop yet. I still remember my first successful landing - definitely victory dance material!

I finally got the nerve to try FA-Off the other day. Boy do I suck at it! I mean... I'm no stranger to newtonian flight mechanics... I play Kerbal and play it pretty well. But FA-Off in Elite Dangerous is something else entirely.
I did manage to use FA-Off in combat... and I think I could get the hang of that but no way am I going to try docking right now.

FA OFF is definitely my favorite way to fly, it's get's better with the bigger ships. The Clipper & Type-9 are a huge amount fun with FA-OFF due to the large amount of inertia.

My Preferred method to practice with a new ship is to find a quiet outpost, I'll then switch the lights on and maneuver around the station using thruster's and throttle, pin point a certain part of the structure and practice perfectly lining up with the lights. you can also take off and land on large parts of the outpost without having to request docking, just take it slow and ensure you extend the landing gear :)

Azaban Orbital is a good station, nice background scenery and has a large flat structure, big enough to Land a T9 or Clipper.

I think you just get used to docking in a particular ship and when change ship it acts a bit different than what you was used to. Me I've got a T7 and a Cobra, I just changed back to my Cobra and started scrapping the paint work when docking, made me feel like a newbie again.

Awesome! I look forward to playing around with the inertia on the big ships then. I must have just gotten used to the responsiveness of the smallest ships. It's nice to hear about new things to learn as ship progression happens!
