FA-OFF will ya!!!

Here's my docking attempt with FA off.

I managed it first time I attempted it, then in subsequent attempts had to turn it on to rescue me  .... then managed it on video

So, I watched the video and thought "pah! that's easy". Will try it this evening and I fully expect to be proven totally wrong :) Try it again in a Type 9!

It also made me think if there could be a reason for needing to do this - so if the FA was a module that could be damaged and you needed to get back to the station without it functional. I like that idea.

FA off is great in combat..... not so easy when you have very limited space to move like the letterbox, and you have a fixed point to become stationary on.

I've tried it once (with everything off). Failed miserably.
I don't get it, what justifies such torture over FA-on, except knowing that you can do it (eventually) ?

Completely agree. A little further into the video (about 8 mins in) you can see Isinona taking his hauler back in for a wash and polish. Smoooth.

I find it hard to think I'll ever be able to fly as well as that but I will try hard to get there!

Thinking about it.... I'm sure I've got rotational correction off.. Will have to check
And having rotational correction off is just masochism!

Thinking about it, I kind of see rotational correction as a 'basic' docking computer tool as it removes a lot of the grief. Perhaps it should be marketed that way....

FA off is quite useful for stealthily sneaking into stations undetected (eg because you're carrying stolen goods or have a bounty on your head).

This brings back nightmares of having the autopilot destroyed in combat in Frontier and trying to get my head around orbital mechanics....
