Fact: Dumb AI promotes and encourages the behavior of gankers.

Because they have less meaningful gameplay to give them anything else to do.

Would good AI completely eliminate them? No, because the two activities aren't analogous. But the current options for gankers are this:

1: Spend an inordinate amount of time locating other players or organizing yourself for an proportionately smaller time of productive activity in the game.

Or

2: Completely waste your time shooting braindead NPC's.

It's quite obvious that if their options were to be changed to what's below, that gankers would actually have more than one option for enjoying the game.

1: Spend an inordinate amount of time locating other players or organizing yourself for an proportionately smaller time of productive activity in the game.

Or

2: Pop into the local CZ and be in the middle of a hairball within a couple minutes that's capable of challenging them for 90% of the reward they would get from Activity #1 instead of spending hours looking for 30 seconds of gratification.

I think it's pretty clear what the best set of options is, given first set of choices and the second set.

I think there's a lot of assumption there regarding gankers.
However, I would like to see NPC difficulty ramped up to ridiculous levels, but only in specific 'optional' areas.

Assumption?

I thought I had firmly established that I was one of their nefarious lot. Apparently my reputation as the forum's scumbag needs a bit of polishing.

Lol, ya got me.:D

I still want to see some stupidly hard NPCs. With a warning: Restricted area, experienced combat veterans only.

And then come here and read the posts from 2 week Conda folk who lasted seconds.

The whole point of 'ganking' is to remove any challenge that may have otherwise existed. The idea that adding challenging AI would have people stop ganking T7s with their wings of FdLs is absurd. Its akin to saying adding challenging banks to rob would stop certain people punching toddlers in the face. Robbing these banks may be interesting to some people, but generally not to the kind of people who go for the easiest and most annoying activity they can find.

No. Gankers don't gank because it's "meaningful". They do it because they want to.

There's unquestionably a subset of griefers who troll for the sake of trolling and/or because that's what their streaming audience wants to see. But better NPCs would almost certainly help. Partially by redirecting some combat players into PvE activities. But also, and much more significantly if it worked out, by training new pilots in the techniques needed to escape a gank. Only a relative handful of pilots will ever read things like this guide on the forums, but every player encounters NPCs.

Gankers are cowards IRL, and this is their way of feeling some sort of power that they lack. they dont fight people in comparable ships, they only fight people who have zero chance of winning, always.

NPC's made me do it.

Finally we know who's responsible for ganking and griefing.
Guys from AI department.

Let's go

Yessssss.......because griefers and gankers search for a challenge, they're following the DW2 fleet which has 99% no weapons at all and paper thin shields. This is the ultimate challenge NPC's can't offer.....

*irony off

Question to OP:
Did you've ever tryed fighting a Hydra Thargoid? Or do they not count as "npc's" for you? The chlenge is so high, that most people can't even reach that level of combat, yet we still have lots of people/cmdrs out there killing other cmdrs....
