Faction citizenship.

The Galaxy News update regarding a certain Imperial Senator reducing local taxes to zero got me thinking. Wouldn't it be interesting to be able to "officially" join a faction as a citizen? It would, of course, come with its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, a faction citizen would get preferential prices on repairs and refuels, a distress signal to call security forces to their aid quickly, and maybe preferential treatment regarding minor infractions like accidental weapons hits; only in faction systems of course. All this at the cost of a simple income tax percentage or flat rate that could vary based on how long you've maintained your citizenship (lower taxes for loyal citizens) and the faction itself. It would also come with an optional I.D. tag marking you as an official citizen of that faction.

This could give players more reasons to be loyal to a particular faction and more identity within the game world. There could possibly be very low minor faction dues that could gain you preferential treatment from pirate factions in an anarchy system for example. Similar to how a motorcycle "club" has member dues. Or dues from patronage under a specific senator.

What do you think? Would you pay a tax of say for example, 10% income up to 10k in a single transaction in exchange for rapid security response, repair discounts, and an I.D. that marks you as an official Federation citizen with certain rights and privileges?

As a guy who lives in America and pays American taxes I agree with your assessment.
As a guy flying a spaceship that spits on the laws of physics I still agree with your assessment.
