Horizons Faction Influence Question?.

What causes Faction Influence % to rise or fall. I am a member of a faction and usually my influence has been around the 84% mark. However it has dropped to 51% yesterday and today and I can't understand why. I have taken and completed every mission they give me without incidence. I don't take other faction missions and only sell my system data to the faction station. I donate credits and commodities when asked. The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with the fact that I won't take assassination or any other combat type jobs. I was usually getting valuable delivery missions between 500,000cr - 2,500,000cr but the last two three days the biggest job I've been offered has been 275,000cr and this was offset when I donated 24 units of tea and 64 units of superconductors to the faction. Am I missing or being otherwise unaware of something?.

There is a war on the start there? Factions fight one another quite frequent and they loose influence in that system fast if that is the case.

You'll find an exhaustive (and sometimes exhausting) discussion on influence on the BGS mega-thread, which is usually on page 1 or 2 of Dangerous Discussion. But the quick answer is that other players carrying out missions, trading, fighting etc will affect the influence numbers in the same way that your actions do. Check the traffic report in the station news feed and it'll show how much player activity there is in the system.

We are the major faction in I believe, 11 systems around our original starting system and expanding. Maybe I didn't explain it properly in my OP but I am talking about my personal faction % as opposed to the factions % system rating.

What does BGS stand for I looked on the first three pages of the Dangerous discussion forum but couldn't make a match?.

BGS is just shorthand for the Background Sim.

The (excellent) thread I referred to is this one:

Sorry if I misunderstood the question ... if you're talking about your personal standing with the faction (your reputation) rather than the faction's system influence, then as far as I'm aware the only way it could fall dramatically is if you fail missions (which you say is not the case) or perform some other action to antagonise them (kill their ships, etc.).

I think I remember reading that faction reputation can decay gradually over time but that doesn't seem to fit with the large change that you've reported.

A drop in reputation could explain a reduction in the level of rewards offered for missions, though, assuming that factors beyond plain old luck (RNG) are at work there.

By the way, I don't remember seeing personal standing with the faction reported in-game as a percentage, just as Cordial, Friendly, Hostile, etc. which makes me wonder if I'm still perhaps misunderstanding your question.

Killing their ships in a RES is the sure fire way to lose it fast, alway check who those bounties are on...
11 systems! Who are you with pilot?

Sorry if I am being unclear, I am referring to the right hand screen menu. On the first screen it gives your Combat, Trade and Exploration grades on the left of the screen. On the right of that screen it tells you your standing/rank with the Federation/Empire/Alliance. If you click that screen it changes to the one I am talking about which shows your standing with the various system factions. Then it changes to the value of your ship and its rebuy cost and then again to all you entire game credits history and where they came from or went. On the faction screen I am talking about, my standing with the faction of which I am a member was 84 two days ago and has now changed to 51. As I have completed all my missions for that faction without failure, and haven't done anything against the rules of said faction I don't understand why it has dropped so far in the 8 months or so I have been a faction member it has stayed between 74 and 84. I hoped someone could tell me why it has suddenly and without known cause fallen to 51. Could it be a bug and if so where do I contact the people controlling the faction?.

Ah, I see. I think the screen you're referring to on the right-hand display (under the Status tab, the sub-page is called System Status) is actually showing the various factions' influence, not your personal standing with each.

Given that you're only doing positive actions for your pet faction, it's probably the case that other human players are also active in that system and their actions are affecting the system influence figures, as mentioned earlier.

Also you mentioned that your faction was > 75% and expanding. The process of expanding 'costs' some influence (15% if I remember correctly) so some of the drop-off could be explained by that.
