Newcomer / Intro Faction Influence

I'm no newbie to Elite but I am new to faction influence and I need some advice.

I am trying to destabilize a system that currently has an independent faction in control (60%). I'm trying to boost the local federation affiliated faction (21%) to power but I'm finding that my actions are doing nothing to shift the influence percentages
I spent most of yesterday running missions and trading with the fed aligned station to boost their influence but I saw no change at all, I then wondered if there are any actions I can take against the independent station that will weaken their influence (beyond just blowing up system authority vessels as that could get expensive)

I'm also aware that I'm going at this alone so are my actions going to take a long time to show any effect or am I missing something?

It will be tough on your own.
If your enemy is sitting pretty near a res, or is a good trading spot, you may find it impossible as random players will just be boosting your enemy by their normal activity.

There is no way to harm a faction without becoming really hated. Kill their security forces, accept missions from them then do the alternative

Ah ha, thanks! i've actually got a RES right next to the station I'm trying to boost so I'll give that a go. Another quick question, do you know if taking and aborting missions affects the other faction or do you have to nip into USS' and take the alternative option to effect influence?

Not sure, but I would strongly suspect that finding and doing the alt would hurt them more. You won't be able to do many, you will be on the naughty list fairly quickly

Thanks again Dommarraa. I was actually allied with the station i'm trying to flip as it "belongs" to a RL mate of mine who backed the game early but i've now gone down the fed route and want to flip his precious little station to my cause. Thankfully that gives me some room before they turn hostile.

Time to get RES farming!
