Faction rankings?

I'm wondering what are the different ranking levels for factions?

I wen't from Neutral to Unfriendly for Federation for some odd reason I do not know. Yet the arrow next to the "Unfriendly" points up telling me it's improving. So what takes?

To my ear, Unfriendly sounds worse than Neutral, which it probably is too.

The positive ranks I have seen so far are Friendly and Allied, so I suspect from Unfriendly the next one down is probably Enemy. The little arrow shows the recent trend in your relationship - keep helping the faction and you will go from Unfriendly back to Neutral. Your rank may have dropped due to failed missions (all too common at the moment due to the servers' propensity to "lose" your transaction data at critical times).

Edit: You haven't accepted assassination or combat missions with your Unfriendly faction as a target by any chance?

Oh yeah, I had to abandon few missions because I didn't realize you can get missions to areas where you do not have permits to (From Sol -> Sirius). Also one mission I took from a station (was not a pirate mission) gave me illegal cargo (trash) for that station. The station scanned me and I got a fine of 12k for 4k reward mission

Next down is "hostile" not enemy. Easiest way to find out is to carry some 10 or so items of stolen cargo and get scanned by cops and you'll immediately drop down to hostile with the faction.

I am sure this is to counterbalance smuggling because at the moment it is such an easy way of making trillions that it has to be balanced somehow
