Can you have good faction with Empire and also have good faction/reputation with Federation?

Or does increasing Empire reduce Federation?

I've spend considerable time building up some good Empire (cordial), but now I'd like to do some work for Federation on a few missions. Will that decrease my Empire rep?

No, they are totally independent. You can be allied with all three superpowers and nothing will happen.

You can even rank up in Federal and Imperial navies at once.
That will be changed, somewhere in the future, though, as it makes even less sense than the reputation.

You can even fight a Fed or Imperial capital ship in a combat zone and gain rep with one whilst not loosing it with the other :O

I am doing Fed Navy ranking atm having reached Duke for the Empire. What does cause the major faction rep to fall atm is simply not doing missions for them or interacting with them. So my Imperial reputation is slowly falling atm, but crucially my rank does not and the rep tbh can be quickly recovered when I return to finish off the last two ranks.

You won't fall past 75% unless you start killing their ships or failing missions for their factions.

You know what they say - What happens in CZ, stays in CZ.


This is actually something that I deeply admire. When there is a conflict in the system, they dedicate small parts of the system to fighting, where involved parties can resolve the disputes mano a mano, while the rest of the system can continue to live and function normally.
That is something we should use in our RL conflicts. That would be awesome.

We do. Rather than fight across the whole globe the superpowers engage in proxy wars. A glance at the evening news should indicate some of our current CZs.
