Faction request problem

I have made a request for a player faction and Frontier tells me that all three systems are full and there is another player faction on them. But I have looked, in-game, in edms and eddb and in none of the three I see that this is true. What happens? Why do they say there is a player faction if I don't see it anywhere?

I've been in the same situation recently. My first piece of advice - be patient :)

EDDB/EDSM/INARA can't guarantee that the faction you looking at actually belongs to the players or not.
I requested several times and ended up coding a script that parses EDSM dump with habitable systems to find a specific one.
It's not a very fast process. Some factions can expand to this system at the moment you requested, and it blocks spawn for a new faction. Some systems can have 7+ factions - this is also blocking. Some specific states (can't say for sure) can be blocking as well. Even if the submission form shows "✅" sign - it still not guarantee that system will be suitable.

First of all, I'd recommend filter out all systems with 7 or more factions. It will increase the chance. Even if requirements say it needs to be 7 or less - when 7 factions present - some 8th faction can expand to this system.

Second - visit the target system on your own. (Maybe with ED Market Connector enabled - it will update inara/eddb/edsm).
If it's not a very active system - you might notice that the system info was outdated on the web, and you only can see fresh data in-game when you visit it.

PS: What systems was that?

I am in the system that I request and in-game the system map only shows me 5 active factions and they are all generic NPC factions.

 Then most likely some of the player's factions in ~20ly triggered expansion to this system.

For example - I tried to submit TIRIS first, but the new faction expanded brutally just on the next day. So my submission was rejected few days later.

I've been waiting for several days, this is the second request I send, and no player faction appears

EDIT: In fact EDSM says there was a player faction but it is gone. It is a retired faction.

and there was I thinking it was normal to wait 6 months. That is how long it took for me. If approved, it will take a few weeks and usually only after an Update.

Most likely Guardians of Harmony trying to expand to this system. Not sure.

Also, does it match your SP Allegiance?

And always check this tab "NEAREST INHABITED SYSTEMS" - https://inara.cz/galaxy-starsystem/13621/#galaxystarsystemexpansions
Very handy.

It has been appearing like this for a week. In any case, it seems unfair to me that the system is blocked by a faction that is not even "yet" in the system.

Even if it were that, they would continue without having seven factions in the system. Not like Frontier said.

It feels. But on other hand - if minor faction submissions were easy - the bubble would be flooded with dead factions.

Yes, you're right about that, but what happens when huge factions like Guardians of Harmony have a monopoly on many systems in one area? new player factions won't stand a chance

Very solid advice. It took me several hours to find three suitable systems based on the prerequisites involved. Fortunately, I was approved in about a week.

That's where it make sense for smaller squadrons to engage each other in coalitions, alliances, and friendships to help each other out, when possible.

I say that with the understanding that certain variables might make that impossible.

Even if it was allowing you to be added to a nearby system to them, would it be a location that suggested a successful life for your faction?
(Though in this particular case, since Guardians of Harmony have previously retreated from the system, they almost certainly won't be back soon)

This will not be the case - the game doesn't decide on the expansion destination for a faction until the moment it expands (there have been various experiments done to prove this). You can't be blocked by a faction that isn't there yet - you can get unlucky if one expands there between submission and processing, but it can't stop you submitting the request in the first place.

Possible reasons for not being able to submit:
- one of the factions is in fact a PMF, which has been given a "blend-in" name, and EDDB/Inara haven't realised it is a PMF. (There is no in-game way to distinguish between a PMF and any other faction, so the EDDB/Inara data is a "best guess" of player collective knowledge, and can sometimes be wrong)
- the system is considered lore-significant or "in the news" by Frontier (not as far as I know, but they might have plans for it)
- you were trying to submit an Alliance or Imperial PMF to the system (or possibly even a Federal one?) which doesn't match the existing system allegiances

Hello again CMDR o7

I hope you found a place to live already.

If it happens that you're still looking for a system: here is a few little things you should know to not repeat my mistake:

  • We found a good system called "Jath" with no Player's Faction. Looks comfortable and promising.
  • After a few days, the local "NPC" faction spotted our presence and pushed us down with little to no effort. (see screenshots attached)
  • Turns out the NPC faction was supported by multiple squadrons with 200+ CMDRs for like 4 years and controlled all systems around Jath.
  • We contacted the opponent's squadron and they politely explained that there is no way they will give up Jath.
  • Now we in a dead-end and locked in our home system by the "NPC" faction.

We don't want to start a war with such a huge faction with our little squadron. It is pointless.
So pray on FDevs to relocate us to the edge of the bubble. (I'm not yet even sure if it's possible)

So I highly recommend double-checking every system with Inara first, and look for suspicious activity between factions. Influence charts should be as flat as possible. Double-check traffic reports in the system. And if you don't want to become a victim of someone's sudden expansion - check the "NEAREST INHABITED SYSTEMS" tab, and look player's factions around.

UPD: For relocation, we picked about ~350 and only 2 were w/o players around. Of cause without L-pads on orbit. Just so you know - we spend about 48 human-hours just to find it.

I wish you and your squadron the best of luck, CMDR o7
