Newcomer / Intro Faction States explanation request (via a warzone)

I've been trying to find a good guide to the faction states for some time now, on and off. However, I've not been able to find one. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What prompted me to ask now is the system I've just been in, called Camazotz. At the moment it's a brilliant place to be for anyone wanting a fight. From the arrival star I counted five low intensity CZs, five high intensity CZs, a couple of RES points, two checkpoints, two Seeking Weapons points and a load of clusters. Some money to be made here at the moment!

When I looked at the System Map the only two factions fighting are both at War state. I thought they would have been at Civil War state, hence my posting my request for a guide in this forum. Obviously, the more things explained the better (e.g. Lockdown, Boom, sequences, etc.).

That would be a bug - if they are fighting each other, they should be in civil war since they are both system-native factions.

All actions in a system affect the influence of the factions, be that trading, piracy, running missions or shooting people. I did a brief write-up about it a while back, but it will probably all change in 1.3. The main point you should take away from this thread is that there are currently serious bugs in the simulation that often produce results counter to what the devs have said they programmed to happen.

The post is here.

You'll be able to see from your mission completion screens what effects they have. Common sense applies to the rest:

Trading inflences economic states
Black market trading does so too
Killing pirates boosts the faction controlling the station where you cash the voucher and undermines the authority of the pirate's faction, etc. Killing too many pirates makes them turn hostile, which can make anarchy systems pretty entertaining places.
Killing system authority ships boosts lockdown and civil unrest effects.

Etc., etc.

Thank you for your reply and the link you provided to your post in the other thread. I think I'll print it off and put it with the other notes I've amassed whilst playing ED.
