Hardware & Technical Factory OC'd GTX970 crashing...

So, I purchased a new EVGA GTX 970 SSC last week just to find out that hey... guess what, Elite Dangerous causes the card to crash because of the card's boost feature...

This issue is rather old, how is it not fixed yet? I assume it's not fixed yet because whenever I 'DONT' "underclock" my card, Elite crashes... no other games I have installed crash... in fact,
my computer is so fricken unbelievably reliable, I haven't had ANY errors in my Event Viewer in quite some time.... until now. driver failures, ONLY with Elite.

I've looked into updating the GPU's bios, but it would seem, unless I suck at numbers, that there is no "newer" version of a bios than what my card currently has....

This is not a new, unknown, secret problem either... it's all over the web... but I'm curious, how has this not yet been resolved? All these links are to threads that are several months old now.. I would have thought this issue to be a thing of the past by now.... lucky me, I'm just now getting to experience the fun.

I can keep linking more threads, but it wont do any good.

My TL;DR po'd question is..... WTH do I do now? I just bought this card a few days ago, returning it will leave me GPU-less for ??? an unknown amount of time, the local retail store(s) ONLY carry the "exact" same card... which isn't even listed on EVGA's product page...

They have a "similar" card, but it's a different part number. My card's PN is: 04G-P4-3979-KB EVGA lists a 3975, but no 9... they list it in their support pages, not that it helps any....

Why O Why

If you can request a refund of the card, do it without hesitation. And buy GTX 1070 coming soon. You will get much more power and performance for the same price or even cheaper (really more power and performance ...)

I have the exact same symptoms except with a MSI 390X 8GB. In fact I had a 'hang' just a couple of hours ago and it's the first proper hang I've had since running the 2.1 beta. Actually I was thinking about starting a thread to see how many others are still getting this. The card has 3 clock presets - 1050Mhz (which is the reference clock or 'Silent Mode' as MSI call it), 1080 (factory overclock or 'Gaming Mode' as MSI call it) and 1100 (MSI call it OC Mode).

Do you get the crash when you are driving the SRV? That's when I get the crash/hang. But it only happens when I let the card/drivers do it's own thing (which will clock up to 1080Mhz). If I use the MSI Gaming App (or MSI Afterburner) to force the clocks to the reference 1050 it's fine. I don't call it a crash because the .exe does not actually crash and I never get the ED watchdog app asking me to submit a crash report (unfortunately). Usually my PC just keeps trying to switch between the game (which is actually a black screen) and the desktop. The game continues to 'run' and may or may not eventually hang. It's definitely the game and the graphics drivers not getting along.

Thanks for posting those links I did not see those when I did some research a while ago, I will have a read to see if there is anything to glean from them.
