Failed mission...

So... I accepted a mission where I had to deliver 132 T of survival equipment to a nearby system. The Conda I was flying had 192 T cargo space, so no problemo, load the stuff. Then looking at the System Map, I realized that the target station was an outpost. Doh!

I have a Krait Mk II that could land there, I thought, but it only had 128 T cargo space, so no way of switching ship! 😒

Then it hit me. I could dump 4 T of the cargo, and switch to the Krait. After adding extra cargo space, I was even able to buy the survival equipment in the commodities menu, where I was told that I had 128 T and needed an extra 4 T for my mission. Great! 🙂👍

Flew to the outpost, landed and went to deliver. In the mission menu I was only able to deliver 128T, lost my pay and got a fine! 🤬

Come on! Survival equipment must be survival equipment. Sometimes this game is surprisingly close to real life, and other times it's just bad game design. I know that I was told that the cargo is specific/precious/whatever, and I honestly tried to fix my own error of not checking the landing pad size before I loaded the cargo, but this was like going to a dead end and have the game laugh in your face while flipping the bird.

After some reading: This also seems to be an old problem?

Life isn't fair, so I guess this game is pretty close to real life after all.. Yeh sounds like the rules should be tweaked here. A bit like the docking fines issue when undertaking a rescue mission at a damaged station (which I read on another post recently). To clarify - I take it you collected all the cargo you were given as opposed to buying it from the market? It's just that when handling precious goods etc that cannot be replaced I think they are always issued. It sounds like you might have bought extra survival equipment here(?) Just flagging in case you dropped off some of the wrong expected survival equipment in amongst the runs and that's why it then went all stupid on ya.

The question I have. Did you use some of the features of the game first? I have never had this happen. But I always look at the Galaxy map on Mission board to view the destination of a or buy system data before accepting a mission. Or did you accept the mission in a smaller ship then decide to switch to a larger ship? I would like more detail.

I was actually trying to use the features of the game, but I didn't check the size of the landing pad. I was in a Conda at Jameson, saw the mission, thought what an excellent one to start with, and collected the cargo. Then I wanted to plot the route, and in the galaxy map I realized my mistake, being that the outpost I was delivering to only had medium sized landing pads. I could just have abandoned the mission, but that was too easy. So I "jettisoned" 4 T to get the cargo down to the medium ship I had with the largest cargo capacity, a Krait with 128 T.

At that time I thought that I might have to deliver the 128 T as a part delivery and tell that I had had to drop the rest, but then I looked at the goods I had loaded, and they were available on Jameson's commodity market.

I know that the stuff you collect is said to be irreplaceable but when I saw it available in the commodities market, and since they were the same, and the menu even stated that I needed those for the mission, I thought I was ok.

No worries though. I met a pirate on my way back, and took him down one module at a time. That helped. I'm happy again :)

Still it would have helped I you were able to stash cargo (or un-collect) temporarily, while changing the ship. Or if I had used my eyes and read the mission description ;)

EDIT: Come to think of it, I might have been in a Mamba when I accepted the mission. Normally you can't accept a mission if the ship is too large. If I then switched ships, and filled up the Conda, that explains it. OK, you live and you learn. Thanks for the answers!

Ah yeh that's why it didn't work out. Not all the right cargo and not the right ship. Maybe not so unfair after all..
