Is there a reliable way to get round this install bug in 2.1?

I've tried deleting .part and .progress, which worked for two previous updates that also failed.

Also it's concerning that I've had no response from the support team on two occasions about the issue.

It's the same thing the last half a dozen people who posted about this have been told to do.
