I think the faith in individual people being able to appreciate and return a small acts kindness was never in question, OP

It's the faith in humanity's willingness to NOT destroy themselves and half of life on this planet within next 200 years that is seriously on all-time low.

They say that by 2080, half of the animal and vegetable species is condemned

This is dramatic and of a big sadness

Already the birds disappear from our countryside (a third according to the CNRS)

With all the ecological consequences induced

I believe to dream when I read the things like that

I would never have thought that possible
