Community Event / Creation Fan art Elite Homage/Nod to/

Hi ppl, as all of you, I was very excited to hear a new Elite is under way because I have very fond memories of the game. Since I really ike sci fi, and since I'm building me a new portfolio, I decided to dedicate one of the illustrations in the series to the game we all love.

Now, this isn't exactly an Elite as the ships seen here are made up by me. So, as the title says, it's a nod to the series depicting something that might be a Sirocco station with a bubble head dome on the left, and something that miiiight be a new Anaconda  cooking on desert sun far back to the right :D The blue ship in the back could be some sort of clipper, while the ship up front is a small cargo runner.

[artistic disclaimer]
This isn't 100% the way I wanted it to turn out, since I've been doing a lot of freelance to support myself, and had very little time to spare. So, with that said, all of you artistically inclined and schooled, please excuse any perspective and lightning discrepancies...

Cheers!

Great job!
I think that pretty soon there will be a request to create a desktop wallpaper of your drawing.
I hope you do not mind if I translate your drawing in three variants wallpaper?

For higher resolution, click on the picture.

O, no!
I just resize his image in Gimp =)
But, thank you anyway!

I think, today or tomorrow I will add a signature pattern generator, and there may be several templates.

Thanks peeps, glad you like it 'cause I had a blast doing it. I myself like the handmade/garage style ships so I made these a bit beaten up with a lot of exposed junk. I wonder how the artwork will stack up to the game, once it launches and we see all the real ships.

Brilliant !!
More ..More ...More !!

Hey synchro, thanks, I'd love to, but I'm not sure I'll be able to. I need to land a decent job so I'm in the process of making a new portfolio for that purpose. It'll be sci-fi mostly but not Elite related

Since on the desktop on the left is usually a lot of shortcuts, I decided to make a mirror of one of the variants of wallpaper.
Objects to the right will be more visible on the desktop, not dotted shortcuts.

Fantastic drawing.

Electronically done or good old fashioned pen and paper?
What software / techniques did you use?

Looking forward to more when your schedule allows. :)

Hey Void, sorry to dissapoint ya, but it's digital. In my line of work it takes too much time to do everything by hand.

I basically drew up everything in Photoshop. After I finished drawing (lights, shadows etc), I added photo textures to get different materials I needed. Then I painted some more over that, and so on and so forth.

For example here, this was a very early sketch version :)

Not disappointed at all. :)
I'd be surprised if you did it on paper in this day and age.
I find how a creative person produces their work very interesting.

Why I enjoy following the author bloggs and podcasts so much as well.

Yeah well, it all depends how you were schooled I guess. Younger generations would prolly prefer digital over traditional any day, and it wouldn't make a difference for them. With that said, I still prefer to see traditional effort and something that has a human "error" (or happy accidents) in it. But one can only wish to be well off with his line of work so he/she can peruse the alternatives such as traditional approach :)

Thx Davore ;) I'm glad people are accepting it as something that might be Elite, that is to say, that I didn't miss the subject :)
