General / Off-Topic Fanboys - the enemy of excellence

Fanboys are the Yin to (for want of a better word) the Hater's Yang I suppose. I think it's true to say though that even the most die hard fans will have their little niggles with the game, where they can see improvements, but "defending" the developers as a default position has at least three benefits;

One. Looking for the best in the game (rather than concentrating on the flaws) keeps a postivie attitude, both in the player community and (in many ways more importantly) with the devs. Imagine working all day, releasing that work and receiving nothing but flak .. quite demoralising. We'll get the best from the devs if we are fair, better yet kind, at all times about any +/- seen in the game and (not to get too touchy feely about it) bear in mind that human beings are developing the game.

Two. We don't know who visits the forums. It's easy to assume that only the people posting are reading the thread. What about that lurker who's thinking about buying the game, but decides not to on the basic of one negative thread. Fans of the game, offering a positive outlook, might make a sale .. money for the development that ultimately benefits everyone.

Three. Immediate counterpoint to a complaint can educate the poster (or neg feedback) that there are in fact many people, from many backgrounds, who play the game and for a wide variety of reasons. One mechanic that bugs you, might be one of my favourite things. But maybe also, if I simply take issue with a bad attitude in an OP (and then look for ways to defend against the argument given .. just because) it actually doesn't matter who's right or wrong as it will throw out development ideas, it drills down into the validity of the complaint.

I'm sure the devs are kept on their toes by the games market in general, their own wishes for the game, and paying the electricity bill. There aren't though, many things in the World that I like seeing more, than a genuine fanboy, deeply enthused by the whole project and right (on a technical level, when critiquing the game) 100% of the time. Just like me.
