I'm aware this topic has come up a few times in discussion with Frontier.
During the process of developing the fiction for Fantastic Books a continuity document was produced to ensure certain key terminology was written in the same way. This meant you could tell your view-screen from your viewscreen and thirty-four from 34, but also deals with particular 'Elitey' things like Mark I or Mk I and will have one or two case scenarios of things to avoid.
In the next week, I'll be going back to that document and tidying it up so it will go up on the Fantastic Books website. This means any writers writing fan fiction can download it and write their stories in the same style as the FBP books.
This isn't much, but its a little thing we can do to support the very creative community we have here on the forums.
