ANNOUNCEMENT Fantastic Elite Meet 2014 - Organisation and Requests

Fantastic Fiction Meet

If you watch todays video update (38 iirc) then you will know that if you pledge £25 or more then you will be invited to party so that is a great reason to join the kickstarter at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...e-fiction-release-in-audio-and-print?ref=live .

There is also golden tickets but you need to find out what that is all about yourselves!

Where do you think they will hold the even, north England or near Cambridge?
And when will it be held - as a book release date maybe since the authors will be there (I can't wait ).

Together with Commander Dan of Fantastic Books we're organising another Elite convention in 2014, both as a community event and to serve as a launch for the 4 Fantastic Elite books officially tying in with the release of the game. Some details:

Location: Hull, most likely
Date: We're looking at early summer, to be confirmed early in the new year
Venue: We're looking at hotels which can can give us a big function room with a late bar available, a bit like EliteMeet in November, and with preferential accommodation rates for attendees.

What will be there:

  • Authors able to chat and give personalised signatures of books
  • Skype-ins from authors too geographically remote to attend
  • Audio book excerpts
  • Various forms of live and interactive entertainment
  • Elite: Dangerous running on an Oculus Rift for all to try (courtesy of the wonderful Kerrash!)
  • Elite: Dangerous running on a big screen with authentic 3D specs for the audience
  • Other rigs and exhibitions
  • Cake
  • Appearances from whatever Elite celebrities we can convince to attend
  • Hopefully more stuff we haven't organised yet!

Tickets
At the moment the only way to get tickets is to pledge £25 or higher on the Fantastic Books Kickstarter. Everyone who pledges £25 gets a ticket as a free reward on top of other pledge rewards.
After the Kickstarter closes we'll have tickets for sale independently - we'll keep costs as low as we can without sacrificing the quality of the event.

Golden Access Tickets
As an exclusive to the Kickstarter campaign, anyone who pledges over £50 on the campaign will get a Golden Ticket on top of their pledge rewards. This gives early access to the event, about 3 hours before the public start time, giving more exclusive access to authors, and to other displays like Elite: Dangerous on the Oculus Rift (which is bound to be popular). It also gives more personal time when people aren't busy with set presentations, scheduled activities, etc.
However, if you backed Elite: Dangerous or its attendant fiction previously you get a Golden Ticket just for a £25 pledge on the Fantastic Books Kickstarter. This is part of our veterans thank you, to doubly reward those who helped Elite: Dangerous and the fiction exist in the first place.
The Kickstarter ends in just a few days so please get on board quickly if you want to get this exclusive access.

Want to Contribute?
If you want to contribute something to the event, such as bringing a computer rig or cakes or running specific sessions on fan-related activities then please get in touch with me directly. As anyone who attended LaveCon or the EliteMeet knows these events are really made fun by everything the fans bring. You can email me at darrenjohngrey at hotmail dot com.
I'll also be in touch with community favourites like News and LaveRadio to see what they can bring to the show, as well as getting in touch with all fiction authors, including Gollancz, to see how we can promote them at the event.

Any questions, comments or suggestions please fire away.

PS. he name "Fantastic Elite Meet" may change, but it does have a nice ring to it :)

PPS. There will doubtless be other Elite conventions in 2014, and the official and unofficial launch parties. We'll be doing our best to not conflict with them, and to ensure proper cross-promotion of such events.

PPPS. I know it's hard to get involved in this without a date yet, but feedback on appropriate dates is also welcome :)

(I know there's another thread on this, but this is meant to be for details, organisation and announcements. If the threads are merged I'd appreciate if this is made the first post for newcomers to see the full details.)

And with less that 100 hours of the Kickstarter left, we need every £1 or £25 that you can spare! £1 gets you a great book almost for free - £25 gets you a lot more, including a ticket to the above-mentioned party!

Check out this table to find out what YOU could have!

Come, join us!

P.S. Commodore Susimetsä needs all Alliance operatives to help us finally battle it out with the Federation and the Imperials!

If 263 people pledge £35 each... the target will be smashed.

So please join and give what you can give to help this cross the line.

It will open up so much more to us through this elite fiction, and a fiction meet as well and the promo's etc etc etc..

This will be awesome...

Get your name on the list!!

Do you think that all the authors will attend, even the ones from down under?

Why not start a kickstarter to fund the plane ticket so they can attend ? ;) :D :p

Also, maybe a little grumpy now, but this doesn't really belong in general, nor does the KS benefit any ED backers. (No proceeds go to FD whereas the Book pledge tier did) Feel free to ignore me of course but Drew made a thread that was stickied here for people to use.

This is going to be a general Elite meet for everyone to attend. Tickets will be available after the Kickstarter for those that missed it (the ticket is a bonus item on the Kickstarter). I meant to make a proper organisation thread though, as obviously we want community involvement, but Flavio beat me to the bullet :-/

It would be great if you can get Gollancz to poke their heads above the parapet.

You should also ask Dave if he will be willing to GM a session of his Elite RPG. That could be a spectator event.

Aye - noticed - so if a mod could merge this thread with yours (putting yours first) that would be helpful in keeping the forum tidy :)

Wow, I actually beat someone - that is a first but hopefully not the last. I am confident that I can continue when ED comes out :)

@ Liqua - I know that the kickstarter does not benefit FD directly but am sure that they see it as advertising in that people may read or listen to the books and wonder what the game is like and therefore be drawn to it, thereby benefiting FD.

The authors that are too far away (Oz, NZ and possibly Finland) will join us by live video feed via Skype or similar and join the other authors for talks/chats and Q&A sessions.

Oh, and there'll be cake, lots of cake. :)
