Ok, first a little explanation.
About a fortnight ago I got back from my black hole mapping expedition, sold up made enough cash to almost finish off upgrading the Narwhal (my python). Jumped into the PP action and started bounty hunting in earnest. But I wasnt happy, the bubble just aint my kinda place I guess. Couldnt muster up the humphf to go back out into the black either, even posted on a thread a few days ago agreeing that I also had lost my "why".
But then I drank a lot of belgium wheat beer and started fudging around with the gal map, scanning around for something, anything to catch my eye again. Found myself pondering over Sothis, Ceos and Robigo. Sure, one of em has a twin earth like, but apart from that there really isnt anything to shout about. Why out of all the system there would they choose these, it's not even like there is an abundant supply of painite flowing from these systems to justifie the cash and effort it took to build a station that far from the bubble.
Anyway, Im rambling. The point is I started to question just what does justifie building a station hundreds or even thousands of miles from the bubble, what considerations need to be addressed, what would its income be generated from and what connects it to the bubble.
So I worked backwards, why wouldnt I, Im drunk.
A station thousands of miles away in some random direction unconnected from civilizations central hub and unfettered by the powers greed and monopolys is a lovely idea, but then your just a cult cut off that would likely descend into a lord of the flys situation pretty quickly, no vested interest from any major power means your basicly alone to deal with who ever or what ever feels like claiming the station for themselves. There is plenty of extraction systems in the bubble and around it, so no need to under go some grand pioneering expedition to build one in the middle of no where. So Whats out there that aint in the bubble? Nebula, Wolfs, Black holes, Neutron Stars, oh such pretty sights and of course the Peach. So thats tourism and scientific research basicly. (I'm guessing FD want people to have a reason to buy and use the Orca, so I'm guessing passenger liner missions will at some point be a thing, and if that is the case then I see no reason for not having long haul flights to go and see things like nebula a little closer, rarther like cruise linner holidays for old folk) A Trip out to even the the close nebula and back without a place to stop is a pretty tall order for a ship not really designed for that kind of thing, so a station that acts as a destination point is a almost a requirement for galatic sight seeing. The trip out to said station could be a picturesque one too, passing the V963 Scorpii star chain everyone knows so well, travel on with views of the Lagoon, Trifid, Traikaae and Cats paw nebula not possible from the bubble, onwards towards the peach, ever growing in beauty and size, and then stop somewhere above the Eagle nebula (extra cash can be generated from "special" trips to the star forge of the eagle nebula, and the outer rig of the peach etc) I guess it goes without saying that the station would become a stop off point for the Sagi trip and back. Also if you built a station high up then you have some scope for scientific research trips to the neutron fields etc.
What kind of system is needed? A beautiful one, its gota be pretty, or interesting at least. It also needs to contain everything needed, so far from help self sufficiency is important. What if everything on the initial platform fails and you have no planet with a breathable atmosphere?
Gota be a nice sun, A,B,O,F,G. No M's, L's, Y's, Tauri's or neutron etc. No abundance of useless ugly ice balls. Needs a ELW, preferably a twin. Needs things of scientific interest, water worlds, amonia worlds and gas gaint with water based life. Needs somwhere to mine rare matierials for upgrading the platform, preferably a prestine metalic ring for easy resorce gathering, rarther than a metal rich planet as a planet requires a minning base to set up, altho both would be nice.
Nothing partial or nearly will do, I've seen plenty of systems that almost fit the bill, but they are no good. perfection is the goal.

I figured, for the stated reasons, that just past Traikaae to the right of Eagle nebula and high up would be the best place. 6-8 thousand light years is doable with a short jump range, any further and it starts to drag a little, any closer just feels pointless with the reasons I came up with, and it sits you within 20k of Sagi which is a nice round figure.
Last night the Narwhal arrived at the area I intend to begin my search. Buts its a big ole area and I might die from old age before I find the system, so help would be nice. So if you have lost your way a little, or just cant come up with a reason to go back out there and life in the bubble is draining your explorer soul, then come join me.
How do I join the fantasy CG? You go to the vauge area of the Narwhal and apply your exploration experiance.
Whats the goal? To find the perfect system
