Far Cry 5... Let's Chat

Far Cry X... Let's Chat...

I've been waiting patiently, and finally FC5 has come down enough to make it a 'yes please'.

Far Cry 4 is 60% off, and if you like FPS and don't already own this, I can recommend it - some truly great voice acting by the baddy.

1 hour 20 minutes in, 19% of game completed.

I'm very glad I picked it up in a sale. That said, I like the lack of a mini-map and the feel of the game's setting.

Steam is showing full price no?

I got it direct from Ubisoft - through their 'UPlay' launcher - so maybe try their web-site?

In other news, 3hrs 13min, 19% of game complete.

It seems I really don't understand game development.

I'm not sure if anyone else here is much playing, or played, FC5, but I'm on my fifth/sixth run though (in the 'plus' mode where you keep all previous gear/skills) and am having great fun limiting myself to ground vehicles only (except where forced to fly) and have taken to throwing rocks at Faith's head whenever she appears. I've not laughed so hard for an age. Seriously give it a go!

Despite there being much to enjoy, I dislike the fixed/unavoidable 'captures' - such a grating aspect to what's supposed to be an openworld adventure. Also the 'only' ending. Bleak much!? Also Pagan Min was such a great villain that the whole family add up to not even the cut of his suit. Pity.

Plus side - no more towers!!!

Anyone else got some thoughts?

I didn't think Min was much of a villain because it was too soon after Vaas (I was late to FC3) and he was the pinnacle for FC imo. Also, Min was pretty likeable. I found myself despising Amita and Sabal and wishing I could join up with Min to kill both of them, but I digress. The Seeds are pretty good as villains go. Relatable but clearly unhinged and monstrously cruel. As for the game itself, I wasn't sure at first as it reminded me too much of Ghost Recon Wildlands (feels like the same engine) although I did appreciate the introduction of simple ballistics to the gunplay but the more I played it the more I found myself enjoying it and have played it through start to finish 4 times solo and once co-op, which was a blast. I highly recommend it also. I missed the towers tbh, I used to enjoy unlocking them and using them as wingsuit launch points.

As you said, being yanked out of free roam to go partake in the story never stops being jarring, I think it would have been better if story missions just happened as events in the world that you would have to go to like
when John takes the church at falls end for his final mission and you have to go there to trigger it
but other than that it's great fun, especially co-op.

Until you said this I never realised that this is exactly how I felt about them too.

I confess to having a few play-throughs of Ghost Recon Wildlands under my belt as well - but oh boy how I wish they combine the best of both - esp. FC's ability to move/hide bodies in GRW!!

One aspect to FC5 that continually annoys me if the spawn/despawn distance and time - I can turn around to find a truck I was stood beside has vanished - crazy.

Wildlands is good. Only have one playthrough on it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoyed The Division too. I like Ubisoft titles in general tbh. I know people say their games are all the same but I like the formula and the gunplay (or spear/blowplay in the case of primal) is always satisfying and well done.

I can agree with that. I started out with The Division after their last major rework where they adjusted enemy bullet sponges and introduced set armor and considering I got it on a heavy discount I it was a great investment. That being said I probably would ve thought otherwise if I picked it up for 60 bucks back in its original state (which I understand was quite lackluster). I got on board because I played hundreds of hours in Borderlands 2 and The Division seemed to be the same. The modern look and the environment sold it for me eventually, things like "classes" and finetuning gear were just the icing on the cake.

Following that I gave Wildlands a try on one of their free weekends and while I was absolutely hooked on the environment and the gigantic map in general the overall gamestyle wasnt to my liking. I m waiting on a heavy discount, mere 50% off wont cut it considering how old the title is and that I m still unsure about it overall.

But I licked blood with those titles....open world seems to be my thing so I jumped into FC5 when it released, okay I waited till Ubisoft took off the "new" stamp so I could apply a 20% voucher and havent regretted the purchase. It was my first Far Cry game I tried out. 4 or 5 playthroughs myself by now but simply going through the motions by now. I remember when the world felt absolutely massive making me feel overwhelmed at first combined with the freedom of approach it was great fun and very much worth the money. By now the map feels "small" and I have to think of new and exciting ways to kill off baddies but yeah....great title. I didnt pick up the DLCs because as I expected they were overpriced and just lazy throw-outs.

I m on the newsletter for The Division 2 and have picked up Assassins creed origins and Odyssey since then....simply live the big gameworlds and the freedom together with the class and progression system. Maybe they are all openworld FPS games but I feel each title offers enough things unique to itself to stand on its own. Generalizing them with "its all the same" just does the games injustice.

I'll never forgive AC Odyssey for making me snort coffee out of my nose with the obsidian eye/goat's rear incident. I can't remember the last time a game had me literally in tears of laughter....

I like Ubi games in general...play a lot of GR wildlands with friends, same with the Division. Far Cry 5 was frustrating having multiplayer reduced to 'you and a mate' for the cooperative side...and the forced story line dragging you out of free roam to watch a cutscene... I know they paid the actors a load of cash to stare moodily into a camera for the various monologues...interesting, but a game killer for me especially when it happens in coop mode too.

My favourite out of the FC series is predictably 3, simply for Vaas...besides that one, Primal for me. Loved my pet sabretooth....and BEE BOMBS! [haha]

ARGH no spoilers....I m currently busy playing through Origins :)

I gotta say I agree on the Ubisoft sentiment. I wont make the mistake to "favor" them or give em my loyalty (the last time I did that was with Blizzard oh how young and dumb I was back then....). Many people bash Ubi titling them the "big bad publisher whos ruining games" but honestly....its no big deal IMO. I evaluate games when they come out then buy them or not depending on what I find. If people get so worked up over games that dont pan out as promised then maybe they shouldnt do pre-orders, I dont know. Either way taking the Division as an example Ubisoft caught all the blame for its broken state at release and people today are still sore about it holding a grudge against them. Only in hindsight it shows very clearly that the developers are slow, unimaginative and not very engaged with their own product so I doubt the fault is so one-sided. It has been a major source of frustration for me for the years I played the Division. PvE and overall gameplay being the red-headed step-child, all the focus went into PvP (which I never touched even once) but judging from the PvP crowds comments neither those "improvements" were impressive by any means of the word.

Also FC5...I fully understand. The forced cutscenes had me groaning in frustration whenever they hit. I know them, I know whats going to happen....PLEASE for the love of god, can I get a "skip" button already? Its annoying its immersion breaking and I simply pulled the plug several times because of it. Multiplayer gripes....not really from me. If I play multiplayer I do it with my wife or close friends and its kind of hard to get more then 4 people together at any given time anyway. What I like about FC5s world compared to any given MMO is that you are the hero or at least everything surrounds you. Its not like you get a party together then make your way over to camp X which needs liberating only to arrive and see Goonsquad making their exit...the camp lying in ruins behind them....

I always assumed it was simply lazy programming, the no skip cutscenes but you mention that they are enforced because of the actors?

Well if thats true I can think of another game which advertised and hyped an absolute STAR line-up of A and B actors...guess how much cinema they will cramp in there then?

If you like Origins...you'll love Odyssey, UBI really pushed the boat out for that one and it shows. Best of the Assassin's Creed series by a long chalk. (no spoilers) :D

Well now this is a turn up for the books and no mistake.

What with the fallout over Fallout 76 (ahem) I think Bethesda is going to need to look long and hard at itself. As for me, I think I'll pre-order...

Huh so not a DLC but a completely new game, I ll watch this with interest ^^

The only Far Cry worth a damn was the first one. Aside from the trigens of course which were daft. The second game was a great setting, rubbish story, and needed a year more in development. The rest of them were forgettable and generic icon chasing exercises. Haven't bothered with 5 at all.

I agree the first was the best. Even the mutants were good when they first appeared, the ominous growling coming from the trees was cool. It was just late game when the mutants turned into rocket sponges that spoiled it

Its... full of pink! Pretty unusual art style to be honest, could be fun.

I enjoyed the islands map in Far Cry immensely, and replayed it numerous times. The second island in Far Cry 3 was such a let down that I really wanted the Trigens back. I'd also quite like Pagen Min to make a reappearance, and pretty please never do these unavoidable boss fights again. Being snatched out of a helicopter and dropped into cut-scene hell is tedious beyond words, as is the ludicrous spawn/despawn frequency.
