Far Cry 5

I recently made an exception to my rule of never purchasing a AAA title at release in my search for a game to play with my wife. Far Cry 5 seemed to check all the boxes and after roughly 20 hours of coop gameplay I d say money well spent.

I was reading through some of the posts and have to agree with several. Open world gameplay is great and immerses you immediately if your computer can handle it (playing it on a potato would probably result in lots of frustration), it requires but also tempts you to explore and investigate your choices. I find the cutscenes very disruptive and also repetitive to a degree where I have to hold back not to cut them completely. There are a myriad of (mostly hilarious) bugs but I trust that these will be addressed. I m willing to cut the company some slack, pretty much all games these days are "raw" upon release. Important is if Ubi is willing to fix them or not.

Far Crys success in this title for me is the fact that its mostly a single player game offering coop gameplay with only a few people you select or control by hand. Anybody you dont like? Dont play with them. This makes every action or story YOU the center of attention or development. Things change or happen because YOU did something. This is a kind of immersion regular MMOs try to capture but fail to achieve due to the sheer number of people (all equal in the eyes of the company) all wanting to be "the one" or "special".

Far Crys world despite all its bugs and comical AI behavior transports an atmosphere that is entertaining enough to not miss a human population. NPCs and tasks are placed dense enough to never really get boring. In fact whenever I select something to do I find so many other distracting things on the way there that its sometimes hard to finish what I started. Obviously you can go with bigger groups then 2, so far I have only played with my wife and the simple addition of a single player makes everything more complicated already while also unlocking options that would be impossible single player. FC5 manages a good trade-off in this regard.

I havent purchased the season pass yet. I ll observe the company and how it handles existing issues before I commit more money into this but overall.....60 bucks well spent so far. Can only recommend :)
