Farewell, faithful companion.

Last night my trusty thrustmaster t-flight HOTAS x entered the final stages of its life.

I was aware something was wrong after getting interdicted and my landing gear began deploying and retracting randomly. Then the cargo scoop. And I struggled to manoeuvre whilst killing the npc in question. Then, on arrival at my destination and coming in hot (because why not) I was unable to line up on the mail box and smashed my pythons nose up at about 300ms.

It was then I realised that the buttons I use for vertical thrust (which also happen to be used for landing gear and cargo with a shift function) were dying.

So this thread is a tribute, a farewell to my trusted friend.

I’m thinking of getting the t1600m fcs as a replacement. Anyone had any experience with them?

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I really like my t1600m fcs but I've not had much experience of other hotas-eses, so...

T16000m + FWCS. A great set up.

If you're really clever and have access to a 3D printer you can mod some of the buttons on both stick and throttle to get a really nice custom fit.

Goodbye to you my trusted friend...

My condolences. My third x52 died a week ago and I just got a Warthog yesterday (I'm a slow learner, apparently). It's awesome, but you need pedals and a stand to make the most of it, and that's all rather expensive. I haven't used the t1600m, but it looks like a really good HOTAS for the money.

very plasticky like the x52 pro, but definitely built better. the throttle isn't very smooth, and the button layout kind of sucks. there's a lot of buttons on the base and not enough on the joystick / throttle. pushing a button on the base means you have to let go of either the throttle, or the stick. i'm overall more happy with it than the x52

I feel your pain, my friend. My beloved X-55 isn't long for this world and I can't see any replacement I want... :(

Good luck with the new HOTAS.

Open it up and take a look inside :D

One bad ground can cause all the issues you describe, give the board a look over for dry joints, the wires for pinching and tightness, and the buttons themselves for gunk.

Bit of contact cleaner can do wonders :D

Good grief; fresh in the grave and already talking of replacements.
Have a heart. :p

Mine died a little bit more than a year ago but now i have my new friend saitek x52 pro.
more buttons, more axis, and even much more and programmable.

I did the same with my wife!

Thanks for the feedback folks. I would try opening it up and poking about but they don’t let me have sharp objects anymore after the... ahem... incident.

Think I’ll order a t1600 sometime during the week when the orderlies aren’t watching.

I've been using the t16000 for years and it's a great stick. No failures, very precise to this day. I also bought the TWCS when it was released and the sliding mechanism is somewhat annoying and tends to stick. I got it to work okish by fiddling with the stiffness setting and changing the grease (which I guess voids my warranty). But hey, there is nothing on the market comparable in price, and the button/HAT selection is nice.

I have the Thrustmaster T-Flight X stick. No hotas and all is still well, mostly. The hat is getting a bit sticky and most of the numbers are wearing off, not to mention that the wiggle is really a bit loose. But that said, it still flies true and I've become quite attached to it. I really don't know what I'll do when it finally succumbs to the void...

Hmm, well that leaves us with more questions than answers

I was lucky to find a store that sells both x52 & T16000M FCS, so I could compare the feel of them on site.
To me the x52 felt very flimsy-wimsy, T16000M felt much more robust (albeit not as ergonomic as Logitech Extreme 3D).
Needless to say, happy T16000M FCS owner here. :)

My sincere condolences.

I have no clue for a replacement. Sorry.

I have two HOTAS X sticks broken in different ways (hat on one, floppy throttle on the other), I made one good one & keep it as a spare. I bought the T16000 HOTAS & the finer control on the stick makes it worth it, plus you have extra buttons (on the throttle at least) in useful places.

However the throttle has no centre indent making full range less intuitive than on the HOTAS X, and while the linear sliding throttle means it won't go floppy, instead mine gets sticky if I don't use it for a few days, and I've already taken it apart & re-lubed it twice in a year.

It's an excellent upgrade from a HOTAS X, and IMO as much of a stick as anyone needs, although money no object there are more robust controllers out there.
