Engineers Farming common elements? How do you do it?

So I recently switched to Multi Cannons and started using synthesis to rearm so I wouldn't have to travel back to the station. I am now low on the easy to find elements (sulphur, iron....etc..) what is the preferred method to quickly restock?

As I understand it, you need nothing but mining laser if just going after mats. Just keep shooting and ignore the ore while scooping up the occasional element/compound.

I tried turning off my refinery last night as one person suggested that when its off the limpets will only pick up elements. That didn't seem to work.....my stupid limpets just sat there and stared at me until I turned it back on. There were elements in range too to pick up...

Yes, surface prospecting. Go after every wave scanner prospect. You'll end up with more common elements than you know what to do with. I've jettisoned or left behind thousands while I've been after the rares.

I am convinced that you need to use a bit of reverse psychology, and say to your computer screen "I am looking for Tellurium <or other rare element>" so that the game knows to give you an abundance of common mats instead...

LOL...yup....for me its when I am getting tired of playing for the night and delivering my last sothis biowaste cargo.....I happen to look there is a mission for efc and Polonium....just 2 more and then bed....

I just wander about on a planet that has high percentages and blow up rocks with my SRV. Usually goes pretty fast for the common stuff.

You could find a barnacle that is intact and farm it. lots of common materials and some rare ones ;)

Where do you find them? I have seen posts but not to clear on how to locate them. I assume you need to understand how to fly to a specific point on a planet using long/lat. I have not tried that yet.....
