Farmville in Space!

I love this game dearly... I have a very keen fascination and imagination when it comes to anything that has to do with space. This game fits my bill... almost perfectly.

The problem that is currently almost breaking the game for me is that this game is tagged as MMO. I for one do not see how this is at all true. I know other's have been able to do so, but when I enter well known and populated systems or trade routes, I find pretty much... nobody. Maybe I will get the one player in my instance every great once in a while, but that is all.

This makes pirating/bounty hunting/murdering on a pvp level pretty much worthless. I feel so bored surrounded by NPCs when I should be surrounded more by the players. Solo mode is currently = Open Play for me.

Yes the galaxy is billion stars large, but there are still those hot spots that is known to have a fair amount of players there. Currently there is a war in Barnard's Star and I have been hearing from a few others that they are having good PvP experiences there... not for me. Eravate is well known for players, Sol, LHS 3447, certain Rare trade routes I know of, et cetera. I see no one there. I hardly ever see 3 people in one system at a time.

Is this something Frontier is working on because I honestly think their instancing system is rubbish?? I see a lot of people feeling the same way that this is just a single player Farmsville in Space.

One major flaw in this game is that it has Solo Mode implemented. I should have seen this as a huge flag warning that this game is a PVE ONLY game and should have stayed away. Though, maybe this instancing system will be fixed... so I am hopeful.

If you want to meet players, maybe go where all the players are? Sorry to be so trite but there are hotspots in the news items and the forums if you want to go tangle with them :).

neither as mmo or solo game this game actually shines , theres no social/group/clan functions for a mmo
and for a solo game.. just play the x games i guess

Why is Solo mode a major flaw? Many people enjoy it. Many people enjoy Open. Many people enjoy both. You can't flag their ability to choose as a flaw, it was very carefully developed by the devs and appears to be working fully as intended.

You know that there is a billion stars in the galaxy, right? You can find people in some well known systems or so I heard. And MMO is a mislabel. It is essentially a regular game with multiplayer plus match making server to create those instances. So yes, you need to find another game and that makes me happy.

There is a thread around here somewhere about some sort of issue with certain routers that make it so even when you're in open you aren't connecting with other people. I looked a bit but couldn't find it. Maybe check the support forum. I bet thats your issue if you are frequenting the hot spots and still not seeing anybody.

As to Solo mode if it didnt have that the game probably never gets made, they almost lost most of their backers when they said it wasn't going to be strictly offline, Solo mode was a dealbreaker for the money backing the KS.

I do not get why people do not read. Need to get some voice function that reads the posts to people.

Anyway... that is not how they are trying to market the game. They are trying to market it as a game where you do definitely interact with players.

Perhaps its the time of day you're playing? I would suspect if you played during the peak Euro time you'd see more people.

I take your points, but you fail to explain how MMO should = PVP all day every day. Not only do people play this game for the dogfighting and bounty hunting, but also for exploring. This is what makes the 800 million billion stars a feature rather than a bug, this also contributes to the perceived 'emptiness' of space. You want human targets to murder, okay. Said human targets usually don't usually look for a murderin' as part of their fun, so maybe space around you is empty because you've chased off other players into Solomode? Lighten up a little. Flex that murdermuscle on ships bigger than yours, see if you get the same thrill out of it. Calling everyone carebears because they won't play their game to your rules isn't going to make you happier..

That's a matter of opinion I suppose. I really love the game, even in its current, very rudimentary state. But I see why people (like OP or yourself) miss some features you expected, because you come from EVE or any other MMO and expect something similar. The fact of the matter is that Elite: Dangerous is more or less unique at this point and the closest thing you can compare it to is actually the 1984 original, because even Frontier and First Encounters were fundamentally different in the way they were played. So if you want those MMO functionalities, I guess you will be disappointed and if you want to build your own empire like in the X-games, you will also most likely not be catered to.

So I propose you let yourself be absorbed by the world Elite: Dangerous represents and don't mind wether or not the ships you see are flown by players or NPCs. Just enjoy the galaxy and the possibilites it offers you. If you still don't like it, I suppose the game is just not for you, which is kinda irksome, because you spent money on it, but maybe one day the one feature that lets it click for you comes and maybe then you will enjoy it as much as a lot of people already do.

Yeah that could be it then... I have no router but my model could be doing the same thing. I'll check it out. Hopefully that is something solvable on Frontier's side because no multiplayer game I have played has had a problem like this. That I know of.

Regarding solo mode.... I just purely think it's PVE. PVE as in no pvp... lack of social stimuli. Mindlessly flying around and trading... farming farming.. thinking they are actually manipulating something in this virtual galaxy. Thinking it has a purpose when it I feel it does no as there is no actual interaction with players in a multiplayer game.

Solo play..... :/ For the unskilled I guess? I don't know why the appeal.

Did any of you even bother to read the entire post by the OP?

He said he had been to the so called "busy" systems.

I have been playing since Beta and saw my 4th real player yesterday. 4 in I don't know how many hours.

This game, in it's current state in not an MMO nor is it even a multi player.

I agree the instancing sucks big time. But I forget, how stupid of me, the game is perfect........

Ok this is how I feel and I believe it is honestly true.

This game will have NO future if it does not provide more of a player base combat system. Yes there is more content to be released, but without that player or person to person interaction. It is just a pick up and play single player game, and all single player games has only so much... or so little replay value.

Why on earth would you buy into a game that's been widely marketted as primarilly coop and as having "consequences" for murder, then complain that it lacks PvP and you can't easily murder people? Or did you just hear "MMO" and assume that meant "player killer arena" and do no further research?

Ugh, I hate that term. Different people have fun doing different things. I find it equally absurd that people get kicks out of going around ruining other peoples day or shooting down unarmed haulers with no hope of fighting back. Applying derogatory terms to someone as a means of denigrating their opinion in order to validate your own is childish. Just accept different strokes for different folks and leave the name calling to the elementary school kids. Elite as a franchise has been around for 30 years, so you can say you think theres no future, but chances are you're wrong. If you were looking for Call of Duty: Space Ops you quite simply bought the wrong game.

They should add more realistic Farmville instances hehe!
The puzzle is how to get the Rice, Chicken, and Foxes all over to the next station without the Chicken eating the Rice OR the Fox eating the Chicken!

Mindlessly flying around and shooting... pew pew pew.. thinking they are actually manipulating something in this virtual galaxy. PvP only play..... :/ For the unskilled I guess? I don't know why the appeal.
