Farseer Stuff-Up..

I've just made the mistake of overwriting my engineered FSD (50Ly jump range) AspX with a poorly-considered re-roll, thinking the "every upgrade will be an improvement" feature had been implemented (I've just returned from a Sol-Colonia-SagA trip so my brain is a little mushy). How long before I can rectify this mistake without hunting for another batch of Arsenic, CMs and DMWs? :(

Completely illustrates the point that the game should show current, and considered effects of the pending 'upgrade'.

Errr, it does. If he had looked he had seen big red bar to the left of the optimized mass, indicating an almost certain downgrade.

Q1 2018. So months.

C'mon, where is the jump range shown? It isn't.
Optimal mass is one factor, there's fuel/jump, there's the weight of the component, etc, etc.

The mistake was he thought every upgrade would be an improvement. The screen clearly shows that not to be the case. You are talking about something else. I agree in principle that it wouldn't hurt to show it as well (even though it wouldnt be that usefull, understanding the stats is much better in the long run) but it wouldnt have done a thing here.

I made a similar mistake last night and nerfed my range without the resources to try again. Lesson learnt (I don't really understand the engineers screen yet as I only just started with them)

I am not up to level 5 yet though either. I imagine dropping from 50LY is a little annoying

This is not completely correct, it is not always clear, particularly in the case of G5 FSD if a roll is better or worse. There are 2 range increasing factors, max fuel per jump and optimal mass. The game should display the modification's real time difference to the stats of your ship, just as buying a module.

Edit: didn't notice has been said til now sorry.

Common bro, think it through. :) Picture the screen. Imagine either scenario:

1) You can only improve.
2) You can get worse results.

Would these two scenarios look identical to you? No. One would show huge massive bars to the left as he already maxed almost everything out, the other would show mostly bars to the right. Canoe made a mistake, it happens, its not the topic. He wants to know when the proposed change goes into effect. The answer is Q1 2018. Meanwhile he should follow Jenner's advice and see what Support can do.

That's true but both of those factors have such a tiny impact on the overall jump range compared to the optimised mass that you need to be looking at an edge case of edge cases before they would be the critical factor. The mass of the component in particular; adding an extra 2 or 3 tons onto the mass of the drive with a worse roll than the previous one won't be enough to offset even a fraction of a percent increase in optimised mass for a ship such as a Asp.

I do agree that it would be helpful if the actual ship's current before and after stats were shown on the engineering screen as well and there's certainly room to fit them into the interface but I can't say that I've ever rolled a FSD range increase and not been certain about whether it would increase or decrease my range from the previously applied mod.

There are some upgrades (thusters probably being the most obvious) where it can be considerably harder to tell though, especially if the ship's mass is close to the optimised mass for the drive.

Didn't see this anywhere.

The animated slider on the screen that shows the range of changes for the roll you are doing? If you've had a significant decrease in jump range it must have been deep into the red section which is on the left hand side.

Alas, it happens. I messed up one of my FSD upgrades thinking (naively) I could strengthen the FSD on top of its jump range

Had a long search for arsenic again after that. But when I went back to Farseer I happened to hit a 48% improvement first time, so I kept it and upgraded my other ships instead :)

Some you win, some you lose ..... Felicity might feel sorry for you

This is why I always store the old grade 5 FSD and take a new one to Farseer.

Canoe, fortunately it is not hard to find grade 5 FSD materials, the Henry Class Bulk Cargo Ship is in the Itzam Nawe system, orbiting AB 2, should be there for the next few days, plenty of Chemical Manipulators to be found. Data mined wake exceptions seem to be plentiful as mission rewards. I've also never had issues finding Arsenic in Deciat.

Yes, I did that too. Having got greater FSD range, I thought I could THEN strengthen it up! Big fat NOPE! When you try rolling a completely different effect
any engineering for other effects just disappears back to default! Lesson learned, and a little more hunting for the relevant materials etc to get enough rolls to get it back approximately where it was!
