Farthest distance from Sagittarius A - do I actually have the record???

Okay, so after leaving Beagle Point at the end of the Distant Worlds Expedition I thought it would be fun to explore around the Abyssal Plain for awhile. And it has been, getting lots of first discoveries in this region of space that so few seem to have visited, but along the way I decided I'd try to get as far along the end of the Scutum Centaurus Arm as I can. Currently I'm working my way across it and almost to the end, but periodically I venture out off the edge of the Abyss just for kicks, and I've been checking my distance from the center of the galaxy now and then just to see how far I can personally get. And I've been getting further and further. So last night I decided to trilaterate my best distance yet and upon looking it up on EDSM I was extremely surprised to see that I have the furthest distance from Sagittarius A on EDSM!!!!

Not being an explorer who is complacent with one self, today I tried to best my own distance and was able to do better by 700 lys, so my record now is 42,089.77 lys from the center of our galaxy:

Is this really the record? I find it hard to believe that I accidentally broke a record for anything. Someone please tell me Allitnil or Svenno haven't done better long ago.....? :O

Huh, if that were true, apparently I would have held the record for two months then. Unfortunately, it's not: as far as I know that one belongs to NeilF, who reached a system 45233 ly from Sag. A*. See this thread, it's well worth a read.

Ah, thanks Marx, yeah that thread is a good read. So even though I have the max distance from Sag A in EDSM it's really nowhere even close to the record. And judging from that thread the record will only ever be broken on the that side of the galaxy, I mean Neif's distance is about 3000 lys further than mine! I've been pushing out along the Abyssal Plain and this spot I'm at now is the best I've been able to do, but even if I find some other place where I could get a bit further it's only going to be by a couple hundred light years at best, never 3000 lys.

Last night I managed to do a bit better in the Abyssal Plain, 42,333.87 lys:

But the stars out past this point here are minimal, spread super thin, and very far apart, and from scanning the gal map looking for better areas I don't think it's going to get much further than what I've hit already. Certainly not 3000 lys worth better!

Nah, I think it's time for me to move on, it was fun trying to get out as far as I did though. Maybe later this year I'll head on down to where Neif set the record and see if I can best it. :D
