Ships FAS Now Useless since 2.1 Nerf

I haven't noticed anything wrong with my FAS. A "flying brick" is a little harsh, don't you think? The FAS is still, like, in the top 5 of maneuverable ships, and definitely more maneuverable than any ship with equal or higher firepower.

FAS is still a combat monster, its just the AI change has thrown its two weaknesses into sharp relief:

Paper shields: the new AI actually shoots at you so you take a lot more damage.

Weak thrusters: against the new AI you can't just turret while they fly evasive maneuvers, you have to move yourself to avoid fire, however that means having to use lateral thrusters which the FAS is not good at.

I find tge best thing to do against NPCs is high alpha (rails or triple plasma + ramming) to get their shields down before they SCB to tilt the playing field in your favour as the FAS should be using hrp and armour.

I run this, beam underneath large multi up top. And am now killing Deadly/Elite ships without too much trouble (use 2-3 scbs maybe take 5-10% hull damage.

Aside from the the fact that AI hits a lot harder now (it was indeed pretty laughable before), the FAS is still one of the single most maneuverable ships in the game, hands down. Her 50% turn rate is impressive, and her full speed turn rate is the best in the game. Her FA-Off boost turn is SICK. I can't speak for any actual nerf to her agility this patch as it wasn't in the notes. That being said, do be advised that *no one* can out pitch an Eagle, so it's normal for the really small ships to have an edge against you as you have a good deal more drift than them.

If you want pain, try flying one of the slow less agile ships like the FDS, FGS, Python, and Keelback. The forums are loaded to the brim with Python owners getting torn apart by AI this past week.

I "engineered" the hell out of mine in beta and it was unstoppable. Much much better than pre-2.1. It's going to take awhile to get all those upgrades now that I have work on the rep with multiple engineers and they cost more than a ton of fish, but it will be worth it.

I have parked my Python as it is too vulnerable. I am using my FAS since the upgrade and have managed to make nearly 20 mill, since then. The FAS hasn't changed, it's the opposition that has changed. Today I took on a deadly FDL that interdicted me PVE and noticed that it had green tracers when firing at me (AI still not totally toned down?), I flew reverse thrust and he couldn't get behind me. I have two 3cg beams and two 2ft mc. One or the other or both beams were lighting him up and the turrets grabbed once in awhile. Blew him up as well as a expert Vulture and novice Eagle wing. However when a Clipper and wingman interdicted me I hauled out. It used to be I wouldn't hesitate to take on a Clipper, now I run, the NPC ones seem just as fast as the FAS on boost and with a wingman this fight was not going to happen.

That video is nice if you can get all the mods done. I am still looking for military capacitors to get to Tod.

As someone who recently dusted off his FAS to use in a RES for the current community goal, I have to say that it is very much still useful.

Still rocking my lightly modded triple PA FAS. 3 PAs on the bottom hardpoints(not modded yet) + one C3 multi with corrosive.
Because you have SO much extra power from top PP even with 3 PAs, I've modded it for some heat efficiency and it's even more deadly than before.
