FAS or FGS?

So I've recently ranked up to get the FAS and I think it's an awesome machine! I'm PvE and use it mostly in RES or CZ, love the firepower and it's a very tough bird, nothing out there gives me any problem outside of wings of 3 or more biggies. Just been reading up on the FGS though and my wallet has appeared magically in my hand - got 160 million so should be able to easily afford to A rate it and even pay the insurance

My question is has anyone made the same move? If so what are you opinions? I've read the FGS is slower and less manoeuvrable which worries me a little - I can cope with the FAS's low speed but I like a bit of FA off and dancing around .. Also what's the power and heat like with all those hardpoints?

They are both beasts, but i prefer the FGS as support in a wing and if on my own i prefer the FAS.

Going on my own in the gunship to a hazres gets me into trouble because of the turning speed.

Is it worse than the Python then? I've never actually used the FGS but I do like a bit of Python action in a HazRez.. The FAS is a beast of course.

Well, if you think the FAS' speed was low, you'll be disappointed by the FGS.

Currently, it turns like a brick and it's a rather slow Ship. It's only specialty is its unique SuperCruise agility bug - its SC agility is extreme.

On the good side of things, its mediocre agility will supposedly get an overhaul and will be brought up to FDS specs.
Then, the Gunship will likely become a quite brilliant Combat Ship that rivals its (currently vastly superior) FAS variant.

As a support Ship, the FGS is actually quite fine... packs tons of firepower but just doesn't like to turn.
On its own, I currently prefer the FAS any day.

Source please?! That will make me so happy.

The FGS main strength (and thing i love) is how well it copes with hot weapons. The class 7pd and heat management mean i can fire plasma accelerators all day, and this baby can take 5. Two turreted beams up top to kill vipers and eagles and you're good.

If only I could...
I know I read an official post (stating in conjunction with the SuperCruise agility issue, that it would be changed to get the overall FDS agility), but all I could find again so far is one of my own posts from end of March - stating this being the main reason I'm keeping my FGS around.

I can only assume I read it somewhere mid- to end of March.

Hey Mystweaver,

Sorry to disappoint but it looks like the Fed Gunship will have some tweaks made in the next update, I'd assume this is to make it handle more like the Fed Dropship as they both should have the same manoeuvrability according to the shipyard stats.

Revisiting that made me think though. That Bug Report was about its SuperCruise agility.
Worst case - it's SC agility gets nerfed to FDS levels - but its normal space agility possibly remains untouched... Would be unusual, though - hence my impression that its normal space agility would be upped to FDS levels.
I guess we'll have to wait & see...

But as Mitch was talking "maneuverability" in general that should be equal to the Dropship, I'm still hopeful it'll come out as an agility buff in normal space for the Gunship.

I've never had problems with agility in the FGS. I really don't see why it and the FDS get such a bad rep, other than forum hyperbole I guess.

Slow speed? Surely you jest? The FAS is the fastest of the medium ships (under boost) matched only by the T6 and FDL. Because it is heavy there is the matter of inertia to deal with and so acceleration (in any direction) is not as good as the small ships but it is as good as everything in its class and better than the bigger ones. I think you will be disappointed with the FGS - a FAS will eat it for breakfast while it dances like a boxer to maintain optimal firing position.
