FAS What am I doing wrong?

The FAS is a wing ship like a bomber where you are doing a ton of alpha damage to enemy combatants while non stealth ships are fighting

it can be a 1v1 ship but suffers from a "get gud" kind of skill ceiling you need to be exact with boosts and your accuracy to stay out of your opponents line of fire and know when you need to retreat [usually when you have 1 heat sink left] you can fly circles around all ships

both require slightly different weapon load outs but not to your internals

and the only missiles you have to worry about are seekers you can dodge dumb fire and npcs only fire missiles when your shields are down
 
Well from what I am reading some of you are strengthening your shields to cope with the damage.

Why is this needed on a armor based ship? I thought the strong point of the FAS was its armor tanking ability but after reading through this it seems it's no longer the case.

I have military grade armor and plenty of armor in the internal slots too but still not great. I do not see the point of an armor tanking ship any more with the changes in engineers. Maybe it will shine when people try the upgrades but for now until storage hits I'm not going to bother trying to upgrade anything.

i'm still trying to work out how to best use a shield-less FAS, mainly because i'm too lazy to worry about shieds and i feel the FAS can benefit from a shield-less player style (maybe :p).

Since patch 2.1 i feel the FAS as become very specialized, so it may not be for everyone.

If you are using it with shield (nothing wrong with that) you may not be getting the full strike potential of the ship. It feel as if the FAS is not meant for running away when shield are down, or having to back off because of Shield booster overheating everything (and having to carry heat skins to counter act shield effects).

Its a fast and hard hitting ship, not rellay for sustained battles against multiple ships, and may have to leave a battle often (unless in a wing) but that doesn't mean its not got a benefit for solo players.

You need to look at how long it takes to kill things when using shield and worring about them vs having to leave a battle zone and also ammo; If you using it with powerful weapons that have limited ammo (rail, frag, cannons, plasma, i suggets frags or cannons) you are going to run out of ammo anyways, so you want to use that ammo fast, be on target and then go.

The FAS with out shield can focus on engine and weapon management, letting you turn and keep on an enemie's 6, and keep in close (very close) which is important, as you can hug an target, reduce hits taken, and can also take advantage of short range weapons mods.

You do not want to be using you FAS against multiple enemy at once (combat zone and no shield = no weapons)

To me the FAS feels like a ship that is meant to get beat up, and when the moduals are down, you either have to run, or use then engines and start ramming :p Just the nature of the FAS... you my opinion

My way to fly the FAS:
- 4 pips to ENG
- Boost continuously
- Use vertical thrusters to "dance" around your target

Poor NPC won't be able to nail that many shots on your hull, while you unleash hell against his.
