A quick question though. What is 2ls away that you need to do it in normal space that you can't just SC in/out to?

Not trolling just genuinely interested, is there some reason or you just want to do it for the challenge?

I can't answer that question because I think it is one of the very few things that haven't been done so far in ED. It's not glorious, will likely not work and I still have to find a place where it can be done.
But if it works I'll be mighty proud of myself :) … and yes, it is probably quite a challenge.

I think if you turn on your wing beacon, then the tankers will drop in on you, wherever you are. You see this all the time in CZs where you drop in next to your wing, but miles away (erm... Km away) from the actual POI.

How far away can the wingman or -woman be to drop in like that?
 
Hello, just a little headsup that you can disable any additional modules to lower fuel consumption, your best bet here would probably be a racing Viper Mk III with FA off and only having Life Support on, as you let it adrift the rest of the way to your destination, BUT i'm not sure on the fuel consumption of any ship, i might need to look into that, although this is actually some interesting stuff you are doing here...
Also keep in mind that as your fuel runs out, you can start going faster and faster, so putting your thrusters back on and give it a little boost and then disable them won't do you any harm
I don't think you will need to run cool, temperature isn't a factor here, what is important is the power draw, as the more power you use the more fuel you will consume

All ships were built with only lightweight modules, and as much fuel as possible, with only the thrusters and the life support powered on...
