Fast Cross Galaxy Transport

Just an idea, has anyone suggested having some black holes that transport you to other sections of the galaxy? Some could be one way, others could be two way, some could just destroy your ship. I think it would be a neat addition (regardless if it hasn't been proven in physics to do this or not). Or maybe some sort of gate that can transport you across the galaxy? Anyone think this would be cool?

For reference on what it could look like.

I like the idea, but there are caveats.

Having such a 'warpgate' would invariably shrink our perception of the galaxy, and thus it should only be allowed to exist with the most obstinate of limitations. First off, such a thing is expensive. Like, owning a star system expensive. There would have to be security EVERYWHERE. There would need to be permits, planning, accuracte cartographical data, limited exit points, and...

you know what...let's just put this on the back burner for now. WAAAAAAY in the back...

The only way wormholes could IMAO be integrated in the game, if at all, would be as temporary and totally unpredictable phenomena. You wouldn't know if you ended up in the nearest system or all the way across the galaxy.

NO!

To word it more plain HELL NO!

We are already way to fast on the other side of our galaxy.

Make it an gate to another galaxy, cool. (Does not have to be a big one, lets say the next close one ?\

But down sizing what we have by cutting days of travel to seconds is a baaaaaaaaad idea.

There should be some point in traveling.. like it takes time to cross distances most here can not imagine, we are already fast enough as it is (like so fast most here can not imagine it)

Sorry OP, but there is no way I can get behind any kind of fast travel in this game..
The galaxy is vast and it should take a long time in real life terms to go far away...

Fast travel would ruin this game in any form...

I like the idea of a few sparsely scattered jump points/wormholes throughout the galaxy. As someone who's currently plodding back from Sag A* having taken a 30-40 or so hours of game time to get there I don't think our ships are "way too fast". I think that some of the most beautiful and varied features of the game's galaxy are separated from us by being so far out you either have to jump and scoop like a maniac for half a day solid or take a good month of reasonably quick exploration to get there. Keep distances to points of interest in the 5,000-10,000 l.y. range and give players who don't want to spend ages travelling or jumping like maniacs the opportunity to see the sights FD have built.

I would (very reluctant) agree to some odd "spacegates" some alien way old race left behind that maybe shoots you to the other side of the core.

BUT

I am still the opinion that special things should take special work

It is the point about the size and distances of our galaxy that you can not pop to every place in the matter of minutes.

The fastest ever build vehicle (Voyager) is right now leaving the solar systhem after decades of flight.

In ED we manage to cross the milkyway in days (or one day if one is really eager)

I think that it would reduce ED to another "small universe" game if this idea of distance=takes many days to reach is lost.

Ships do for my taste already travel to fast as is, if i had made ED FTL mechanics you would cry about what it takes to cross the bubbel alone.

why does everyone want to turn this game into that blot on spacegaming EVE. seriosuly, just go play EVE and beg them for a 1st person/in cockpit view... then you'll have everythign you want.
