Engineers Fastest way to Gather Unknown Fragments for Palin?

Does the HIP thing still work? I've been here 30min and got two USS of which one was useful. At this rate it's going to take a while and since I'm Rifting I can't even watch movies while I "play" the game.

Two more than I've managed in 20 minutes. Not a single signal source of any kind detected. Yes I'm flying off the plane in 'deep space' just like I have for all the high grade signal sources needed for other engineer materials. I can see this is going to be another example of that compelling gameplay I've heard so much about.

Edit: Went to another system in the shell, found a signal source inside 30 seconds. Dat RNG doe.

Edit edit:
In my experience, ramming the UA at low speed yields 6 (2x3) fragments instead of the 3 you get by shooting; so it's well worth trying that.

People should rep this guy into the stratosphere for this post. Nudged the little fella with thrusters instead of boosting straight through it in my level 3 dirty drives Python. Two fragments, six in the inventory. Awesome.

Glad to help! :)

I'm starting to think the materials & data collection is a lot less random than people think. It's just there are tricks involved which FD aren't sharing and we have to figure out / share.

For instance I was stuck for ages trying to find Military Grade Alloys, searching in systems in a War state (as the game suggests). Found every rare material you could imagine, but not that one. Someone pointed out if you want them, search for a system that's at war; where the controlling faction is Independent and is one of those at war. Any(?) High Grade signal sources will contain Military Grade Alloys. 2 weeks searching fruitlessly, then less than 1 hour after the above tip I found 15.

Modular Terminals... Seems UF's are easier to get than damned Modular Terminals.

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the armpits of the dev that thought of putting Palin behind the Qwent wall...

I don't believe slow speed influences how many Fragments you get; I'm ramming them now at full speed in my Corvette, which is admittedly only 159m/s but still... getting 2 fragments every time as well. Thank you for the suggested system though! I'm moving between each planet to surface scan them whilst I wait, and they're turning up every few minutes... thank god the Engineer grind is almost over! For NOW anyway!

HIP 14479

Get above/below orbital plain and head out toward the last planet.

Thank you for sharing this. I've been there this weekend and got my 25 UF in about 90 minutes or so.

Damn, that place is really spooky!
Especially if you still have unsold exploration data of the 5.000 ly trip and a lot of mats for skilling with palin in your hold ^^

I got mine from the anaconda crash site after a friend found it and messaged me. But going back and forth from Maia and the bubble delivering grade 5 dirty drives to all my ships, I actually came across a UA while fuel scooping. I had to pop a heat sink to pick it up. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the system because I forgot to take a screenshot, but I did record it using Shadowplay and I know that it is 34.6 ly from Aries Dark Region FR-V C2-1

Thanks, I'm there now and have already started to find some of the Anomaly USSs. The 3X mat collection change is helping quite a bit here as each Unknown Fragment I pick up counts as three in my inventory.

It's even better when you get two fragments from one artifact.

Got mine going between planet 1 and planet 3 at HIP 14479.
I found ramming them at low speed the best way to get two fragments - at the first ram the UA would bounce off, then the second would result in two fragments, whereas one fast hit would result in one fragment ( I was in my Cobra).
On the way back from Maia after unlocking Palin, came across an Anomaly Threat 4 USS while fuel scooping at Aries Dark Region YF-N B7-2.

Finally got round to having a look at this - for Palin. Thanks for all the hints in the thread.

Got mine flying in a circle around the star at HIP 14479 - roughly 1000-1500 out, and flying around scanning the planets.

Used the ramming method, kept it pretty slow didn't always work but still with the 3 or 6 each USS took no time really.
Would note I found if I flew towards any USS, quite often a second would pop up as you got close - and yup couple of times it was the sought after 'Anomaly Threat 4 USS'
