Fathers and son's (and of course daughters) Wings?

I kind of like to think that I'm pretty cool as a dad! Ex-games programmer & all round computer enthusiast, radio amateur (yeah I can do Morse), Jazz trumpet player, I've been around a bit.

My greatest achievement so far!...
I fly wingman with my 16 year old son!
His CMDR name is CMDR John Neary.

So if you see him in game call him up and tell him his Dad said he's the best son a Dad could have!

But...
How many other people fly Elite with family members, or am I the only one?

I would love to wing up with my son but Frontier's really s****y matchmaking mechanism won't even allow us to see each other in-game. Open play, private groups, we literally are five feet from each other but in entirely separate universes in-game.

I bought the game and raved about it to my eldest son (27). He played for a couple weeks, ran out of fuel in space, and logged out to prevent destruction. :)
I have not been able to get him to bite the bullet and log back in. But Wings has helped me urge him back so that we can fly together. He is half-way across the country, so it is a great way to stay connected and do something fun together.

I don't know if this helps but we found that if you invite to a private group, then convert to public you tend to stay on the same server.

My 8 months old years boy is fascinated by the lights of my joysticks...

Dont know though if I can trust him to land my Python. He sometimes pull the landing gear when I am in combat and he is on my lap.

Absolutely priceless image. One to bribe him with when he is older.

Really glad to see all you old shmoes playing with your kids! I'm trying to get my father to play, but he's pretty busy trying to save up for a house.

Never had an issue and our wing is varied in skill and game progess level. I never even knew ED had any matchmaking built in (not convinced it does and shouldnt). I certainly am very often in instances where there are elite cmdrs and the like!

My Son is going on 3 years old. I doubt he'll make a good wingman, but for now he functions as my Elite version of R2D2. :)

Awesome Slopey!

Hows that API comming? :)

You can't be playing Elite enough Darthyank ... That X52 Pro joystick is far far FAR.... to clean!

The kids pretty shiny and clean too!

Funny, my father raved about the game before it came out - followed all the progress updates, watched behind the scenes stuff and everything - whilst I didn't follow it so much. And now it's out he's only played it a couple of times and is still in his Sidewinder and 2k cr. Meanwhile, I've been raking in the credits and the kills, am commanding a squadron, and have been trying in vain to persuade to Wing up with me to no avail.

I am playing most of the time with my Dad in a group.

He gladly showed me Elite Frontier when i was a little kid and since then we play every Space Sim together when it is possible (we played over 5000 Hours of Freelancer on diffrent servers).

Oh and i am 26 years old by the way xD
