Favorite Exploration Ship ? Hauler For Me

I probably sound weird but I love my Hauler. It was dirt cheap to completely outfit for exploration, 30ly+ jump range, takes just seconds to fuel scoop, and maneuvers like a dream when returning to a station.

I tried using the Asp for a while but a few things bothered me about it. The biggest was the cost to outfit. I just couldn't afford the gear to make it a 25ly+ ship. So I was kinda limited on how quickly I could get places. The other thing was how big it is. I know it's not a HUGE ship but after spending many many hours in small ships like the Sidewinder and Cobra, the Asp just felt massive.

The downsides to the Hauler are definitely there, but don't seem to bother me much. Smaller windows, slower, and you can't really defend yourself. But I am really liking it. Looking forward to the Diamondback, but not going to get over-hyped until I see the specs.

What's your favorite and why? Anyone traveling around in a Sidewinder or Type-6?

EDIT: Here's a poll for anyone interested

Asp because of not only the range, but the fact that it can defend itself, you can get close to 30 LY range with shields + boosters + guns

HMS Phoenix, which is my orange ignition Eagle. I'm currently using an ASP but I don't like it either. My bias is mostly on an aesthetic stand point more that anything else, I just love the look of the Eagle and while everyone's holding out for the Diamondback, I am looking forward to exploring the universe in a Beluga Liner, or an Imperial Courier if the Liner is like 200 mil at least until I can afford said Liner.

Im currently in an ASP, and I will say it is probably the "best" explorer statistically and performance-wise.
However my favorite explorer is easily the type-6. It just felt cool knowing I was in a gutted cargo ship crammed full of sensors. It's inexpensive and it can do the job more than adequately. Ill probably stay in my ASP for its range and flexibility, but the type 6 will always be special to me as my first real long range exploration ship.

Yeah I love Hauler, feels so cozy and nimble. And can jump 30+ LYs no sweat. It was my first dedicated explorer and, to be honest, it took me some time to accomodate to Asp.

I'm out in my Cobra and 'Solar Wind' has, and continues to served me well.

But.

When I return I want to buy another ship for exploration, one with the best out of cockpit views. The Asp?

See my sig, T6 for me now. But I liked the Cobra as well. I never bought an Hauler. Sidy->Adder->Cobra->T6 and now making money with exploration to get a ASP or DB (never sold a ship).

But the T6 is a great ship to go explore. Large windows and lots of space for all modules you would need. At just shy of 30Ly(full) in my set up I'm a happy T6 explorer.
But what do I know about ships. I went mining in an Adder ... Try that!

Fly safe

CobraMkIII for me, we are growing into explorers together.
It is full of useless stuff such as shields and beam lasers, mirrored surface composite alloy (because refueling is hot), I even carry cargo and a torpedo pylon for role-play reasons and as a result, it can just achieve the 20Ly jump range.
But man, I love that ship.

I don't have one atm. I have a fully kitted 50 Million CR, A grade Asp, and while it is very functional and good at its job, I kind of hate its face. No logical reason behind it, I just don't like anything about it. It's sluggish, has too much inertia, has a wonky looking cockpit, harder to land than a T7, and the engine sounds like it had too many beans for dinner. Of course these faults are less noticeable in super cruise, but even though the cockpit has great visiblibility, the window framing is hideous to me. Even my graphics card hates the cockpit because the shadows are a blurry patchy hot mess. The T6, which is a roughly similar ship and design has none of these irksome issues, which is very strange indeed.

Oddly enough, even though the visibility is crap, I really like the cockpit of the Adder. The Hauler feels cozy as well, and if I could stand the jump range or lack of frills, I wouldn't mind a Sidewinder either. But the one I am pinning my explorer hopes and dreams on is the Diamondback. It looks exactly like the ship I would have personally designed if I was a graphic artist for FD, and it specializes in my two favorite pastimes.

The ASP always reminds me of the Nostromo. I don't know why, I like the look a lot. It was always my aim the get the ASP but never turned in to a grind or rush. Soon maybe... Really can't wait now for the Diamondback specs. But yeah the Adder cockpit is just beautiful. I think I will kit her for some "touristing".

Well... except for the bad view and the somewhat underwhelming jump range, I'd say the Viper. (So maybe not then. ;))

Having impunity as a courier, system scout, and light load rare items trader is kind of nice though when you just feel like mucking around carefree for a bit instead of making as many credits as fast as you can.

The interior of the ship looks like something left over from the cold war though, dilapidated but functional with no frills. Kind of strange since it's supposedly one of the newest ship designs in the lore. Guess the galaxy has fallen on hard times.

By far my favorite ship to spend any time in piloting about is the Eagle. It's just a shame that it's so low on the totem pole. Maybe if it was the most maneuverable and the fastest it would be worth a bit more to hold onto other than for aesthetic reasons. I really like the urban camo (kind of reminds me of some of the high-end fighter jets and their camo) and of course the red ignition paint jobs for it too.

Here's a picture of me looking over a planetary horizon at a red dwarf in the distance through the cockpit window of my adder:

Seriously I cannot understand how anyone flies that thing, its the only ship that made me feel claustrophobic. Claustrophobic, IN SPACE.

Isn't cockpit visibility somewhat irrelevant considering we can easily go into debug view mode?

Yes and no I think, but since scanning and locking on targets via HUD without orbital lines, a bigger windshield/canopy comes in handy. Specially for had trackers
