"Favorite" on ships and modules

We all know the UI badly needs an update in what is soon to be 3311, but one of my greatest frustrations is the complete inability to sort through things that you own and the lack of a search function for said things. I propose adding a "favorite" or a "locked" flag to ships and modules to 1) prevent accidental sale, and 2) bring them to the front/top of any list they appear in.

Why do I want this? Well, currently the list of ships you own is not organized by any rhyme or reason known to man, woman, or Thargoid. Is it alphanumeric? No. By distance from current locale? No. Ship type? Size? Cost? Most recently flown? Prominence of dangly bits? No, no, no, no, and... maybe? Anyway, it's the same mess whether you're looking at it from a station shipyard or from the galaxy map. Honestly, half the game is lists. That's completely fine, but given that we're all versed in spreadsheets academically and professionally, this clusterjump needs to be fixed. BUT until that day comes, why not just a simple tag that makes the most frequently used ships and modules within arms' reach?

Your thoughts and comments. Give them to me.

Never checked for sure but I've been fairly sure all my local ships are sorted by cost. Can't say I'm particularly motivated to confirm or deny though. 🤷‍♂️

Favourites and search would be great to have.

My ships seem to be ordered based on current fitted value for those on my carrier/current station I haven’t checked properly on those elsewhere but they might be ordered by transfer cost a combination of ship cost and distance but I haven’t checked.

While I doubt a UI revisit happens in 2025, I agree ED needs one, especially now that consoles are out of the picture. FD could review the player tools for ideas on what would be good to include and then consider how Odyssey destroyed and unnecessarily diverged from the in-ship panels concept. I would love to see the current in-ship panels approach replace the on-foot UI design, especially the pointless "wheel" thing for consoles.

As OP mentions, ship outfitting could use an overhaul, with a hangar or fleet view, sortable by a few tags like size, cost, alpha order. Also outfitting a ship to have more pertinent info visible and clear on a single screen. I'd give up the screen space used for the gigantic pretty view of the ships, an use that for more ship specific hardpoints, module slots, cargo/passenger/vehicle space, and current fitment + available options lists. The whole-screen views of ships can be kept for the cosmetics side of things. And the large block icons could be shrunk down as well. The game isn't simple and by trying to over-simplify some UI aspects by using large icons, screen space for showing off the ships, use of "pips" in outfitting and paging stats at the bottom instead of just listing the info more logically for comparisons, makes the UI less productive and sometimes harder to use.

The Orrey view falls somewhere in the UI review, as it seems to be another "half-baked" feature that should be more representative and functional like the galaxy map and original concept art. Last for me would be extending PP-type views to factions and system maps with similar representation of zones of control/influence for planets in scope in the future.

If they do anything like this, I'd also like to see the ability to save different loadouts for a given hull, then be able to refit to another pre-saved loadout, provided the replacement modules are present at the particular outfitter.

Agree, this request has been made several times and never listened by FDevs.

Ship sorting always been by value, a weird way to sort, even the simpliest filter would be appreciate... even suits and weapons have a filter, you can filter for item grade and manufacturer, not the best, but better than nothing.

Flag favorite ships, lock to avoid "missclick selling", alphabetical sort by ship name or ID (so we can give our own logic to the sorting), search filter, all good points...
eventually the UI requires a general review and update, as Hydrino said, expecially now that console version is deprecated.
