Favorite things

I started playing ED from release on the 16th completely new to elite.

I struggled with the shear cliff of a learning curve. I think I have started to get the hang of things now.

I wanted to start a positive thread as most of my time on the forums so far has been spent complaining as I learned.
Please post one or two things you love most about ED.

• I discovered by accident today how much more amazing the galaxy is when I left the game paused for a while and came back to find I had been supercruising out into deep space. Once you get away from a star the galaxy really lights up. It was a beautiful supprise

Still a total noob at this, but I'm curious to know (since the game was only recently released) :
1) How far did you go?
2) Was it far enough to notice a shortage of players and only encounter NPCs when you came out of supercruise and started looking around the local systems?
