Newcomer / Intro Favourite Elite moment so far

What's you favorite Elite moment so far ?
Mine is buying the Cobra MK III (today) something I remember fondly flying from the original Elite on the C64 and finding a decent trade route that's close together.
I'll keep at it for another day or to to build up my credits and beef up my ship and then go off exploring.

Getting my canopy shot to pieces by a superiorly armed military Cobra at a conflict zone, barely escaping with my hull in the single digit percentage, rushing to the nearest starport with 8 minutes of oxygen left to breathe. Overshooting twice due to panic, almost crashing into the docking grill because of rushing it... finally entering the airlock with ten seconds of life support left.

Taking a sweet deep breath of recycled space station air and celebrating that I am alive.

It was horrible at the time, but around some time I just bought my T6 and in my newness ignorant state of mind I decided to go for the big profit and invested every credit I had into one hauling session.
Everything went smooth up until I was about to dock into the final destination to make the big turn-in for my money.

As I approached the final station realizing I forgot to ask for docking permission I decided to reverse and back up because I was to close.
However muscle memory on all of the buttons on my x52 Pro still a bit lacking, I pushed the 'boost' button on my HOTAS instead of the reverse button.

I slammed into the station in a very upsetting nasty way busting my (stock life support) cockpit window leaving me with a couple of minutes of oxygen.
There I was, nearly frozen of shock already thinking about that sidewinder and 1000 credits because I didn't have enough for the insurance.

In litterly heart-pounding, hand sweating fashion I docked my T6 with only 6 more seconds on the oxygen clock.
Backing away from my seat I relaxed and shouted 'what a game'.

Docking at an outpost station, when everything was basked in a beautifully golden light and
I felt really there:

me, landing my ship, in space.

Such moments must be terrific with an Oculus.

Playing Elite for the first time in 30 years and completing first docking terrorfied.
First game I have placed with real risks.

I've done that twice in the last few days but failed by 1 second both times!

First one involved an amazing maneuver onto a platform dock but panicked and missed the sweet spot by an inch (lost some decent bounties too).

Second one involved not finding the letterbox side quick enough.

I've upgraded the Life Support now so got another 2.5 mins!

I don't have a particular defining moment, but a few would be

First time i lifted off to leave the station in my sidewinder as i didn't try any of the tutorials and just jumped straight into the action
I remember being in awe of how much detail the menus, system information etc went into
My most recent jaw dropping moment as I entered into a conflict zone for the first time, panning my Cobra around and then ..... Laser fire everywhere thinking to myself what the hell am i doing here

I'm sure there will be many more to come

Picking up a whole new load of A Class gear for my Cobra.
Taking off from the station pad.
Raising landing gear.
Hitting full power and aiming for the slot.
Slightly misjudging the exit.
Hearing "Hull integrity compromised, eject,eject".

Thinking to myself "You absolute moronic stupid idiotic bleeding numpty".

:D

Luckily had enough reserves to buy it all back. PHEW

First time I played, docked in a Coriolis station without fuss and thought "20 years have passed and I can still do it!"

Exactly this!
It is a beautiful looking game with lots of eye candy.
Looking forward to when I finally head out as an explorer in my Asp....which will be a long time away as I am only sat with 1.5M credits in my Cobra right now

It's the daft thing I did that sticks in my head, and for some reason I loved as well. I've been mostly in a Cobra and I thought I'd give my freagle a go. The standard weapons are pretty tame. I could hurl insults that would cause more damage. A quick trip to the outfitters and I was back out in space. I pulled on my fire trigger and... everything died, including life support. There was some frantic menu mashing to get the air up and running.

Taking off from landing pad 12, full throttle and at the moment i would leave the station discover i have free look enabled, just in time to see my ship crash in the docking port at 375

getting my type 9 stuck fast in the entrance and not being able to push past the other type 9 coming the other way. its was a stpid mistake as i could have easily done the logoffski maneuver and appeared 10 km off the station but i was laughing so hard i forgot all about it.

SC above a giant planet ring. Wow what a view. Passing the terminator line seeing the star rise through the dust lanes. And finally diving into it for some mining. This game is something else.

Chasing down a WANTED and very capable Asp pilot in my Viper, amidst a cloud of police ships. At one point we did a head-on pass, and I started pulling up and around to get the jump on him, only to have the police Anaconda roll into view, practically filling my cockpit screen. Not only did I utter an expletive as I slammed the stick forward to avoid the collision, I realized an instant later that I had also involuntarily ducked my head. If you've ever seen Top Gun it was a very "WATCH THE MOUNTAINS!" moment. :D
