FD, can I haz warning before shot by orbital platform?

I just wanted to dock at an orbital platform. I guess I was considered hostile, which might be possible, as I'm a naughty little Cmdr sometimes. Anyhow, the "wanted" tag on my HUD seems to override the "hostile" tag. As the platform rejected my docking request, I thought the pad was occupied. So I came a bit closer to wait and was dust in a second. Probably there was something on the comms, but it's tiny to read in VR, and there are always things on the comms all the time.

A gentle voice warning me would have been nice. Or at least "hostile" showing on my screen. There is a huge probability that you're wanted anyways if you're hostile, but not the other way round. And knowing that not only NPC, but also platforms will open fire, is quite.. well.. important for people planning to survive.

There are myriads of unimportant messages displayed right into my face during combat, blinding my view. There are a phantastillion of voice announcements in every station reminding us of the importance of not speeding. But that a station is taking measures against me.. No word.

Need hugs right now. *sulking*

Edit: Video, so you can judge yourself if the hints given are blatant or subtle. Sorry for the res (VR mode) and colors ("color blind" as it is called, plus VR ghosting... this works for me)

What you can see: When low waking, the station hologram is NOT in another color (red). It only changes after docking request. Also, the "wanted" sign removes the "hostile" sign. So, you really have to be very very careful when approaching a platform and have the slightest suspicion you could be hostile to them.

Edit: Changed to "orbital platform" in the post, as I used the wrong term. Title change requested.

There are warnings, the controller talks, the combat music kicks in and the platform turns red in your HUD.

As for the tags, well, if you've been killikg ships lately is probable that you killed some of their ships and your reputation dropped to the point where you are hostile in all of thei stations and pretty much KOS, when this happens the moment you drop out of SC the station turns hostile.

When you are wanted (By the same reason) then only security will attack you.

The other possible reason for the station to attack is either Loitering or firing to it so try to remember if you did some of those.

Anyways, there are warnings so try to pay more attention next time

As I didn't have the hardpoints deployed I wasn't offending, and I was definately too short in the area to be loitering. I approached right after low wake using thrusters and requested docking right at 7.5, and was attacked when I reached something like 2. So that's not the issue at all. I was even prepared to be considered hostile here -- That's not very new to me. That's why I looked at my wanted sign in first place.

As far as I can remember, no other warning signs were there. Definately there was nothing on audio, I did not recognize different music, and I'm pretty sure I had recognized that. I cannot remember if the station holo was different colored, might be. But next time I'm suspicous of being considered hostile I will check that, too.

And what about the hugs??

Hey, a little more dedication, please! I lost my FAS and 3mil rebuy. Okay, I can easily afford that, and it was fun nonetheless, and I hate hugs, but that's none of your business. Right? .... Right? :D
No worries. On reflection will give my hug to the platform gunners. I hate waste.

What about bugs? Is falling skimmer bug fixed? Because I encountered it once, was doing my landing routine and minding my own business, when suddenly BOOOM and my Beluga turned upside down and exploded. After changing my pants I learned about falling skimmers.

So did you really saw station firing?

You make a choice, when you do things that annoy a minor faction. The game messages you and says "So and so has lowered you to unfriendly" and so on.

When you make those choices, when you decide to be a naughty CMDR you are signing up for this risk. As R34per says, there are warnings, and since you've chosen to have a negative rep with a faction in that system, I would think you would be very careful about whose ships and stations you are hanging out around. It tells you in the lower left whose airspace you are in. And it tells you in your right-hand panel what your status is with every faction in the system.

Hey, nice that you also had to say something. Although it was completely off-topic and you basically neither read my post nor did you understand that I was already prepared to being considered hostile, but the warnings that should be there weren't. But, I appreciate your company. Now, where's the hugs, dude? Really!

As we can see, combat music, messages in your inbox, just as I said. And that's not a planetary base btw :D you may wanna change the title

Yeah, the message in the panel, that's what I said. When I first approached (as I lost the FAS), there were other messages as well, so I did not see it and it's not quite well readable in VR anyhow. Not that it jumps into your face, like "Mission completed" ;) Btw, it's not the "inbox", you wanna change your post :D The message in the inbox is another one.

The music is very subtle, you really need no know that you have to listen to it. I have the music somewhat in the background. The coloring of the hologram comes after requesting docking. As I said, there is not "no" hint to it, but this one is a really important information, and it is not displayed "very well" to make quite an understatement.

The message in the panel is hard to read and easily missed. The red markers on the HUD and on the radar are not, however. :p I can see how orange and red might be too small a contrast, on my blue vs red hud it is way more visible.

This should be way more frequent by the way. When a bounty exceeds a certain threshold hostile status should automatically be triggered, with the threshold dependent on the security level.

The problem might be the color configuration as well. This is a funny thing, as about 8% of male people have problems distinguishing some colors - usually red color blends, among them even green and yellow, as yellow is a blend of red and green in rgb space.

So, a lot of people suffer from these issues. Additionally, VR brings a lot of ghosting. As the color config in ED is a bit... sub-standard, to say so, I gave up relying on colors on my radar. Not that I couldn't imagine a color config that works for me, that would be easy in fact. I just cannot set it up with EDs color matrix scheme. But that's another topic.
