FD can we please get a progress bar for the naval rank progression?

No more MMORPG style progress bars please.
A progress bar that basically just shows "You are 74% from receiving a promotion" is too darn arbitrary IMO.
I would much rather have something in the station contacts menu instead, like letters/e-mails, that give you something more "personal".
Letter#1: "We have been reviewing your actions...blablabla...but we do not feel you are ready for promotion"
Letter#2: "We have noticed you are doing quite well...blablabla...keep up the good work and you might soon find yourself in a higher position"
Letter#3: "You are doing quite exceptional...blablabla...we are looking into available positions"

I prefer this idea to the OP, as I definitely feel progression gets stuck. I'm only on Cadet trying to get to Midshipman and I've been at fed minor faction missions for 6 hours (3 nights, 2 hours each). I would have thought I'd have got there by now. But I've no idea if I'm progressing at all and should just not bother.
Not bothered by a progress bar, as I keep my own - on paper.

I'd love to see more descriptive progress indicators rather than the % bars. Great idea.
I like this idea. I DO want some indication that I'm making progress, but would rather that it's not too mechanical and precise. Something like the above would be great, messages from the station or from other Federation/Imperial pilots; anything to indicate I'm on the right path.
Reaching Ensign rank was my first goal in the game, 5 months ago. I reached Warrant Officer (one rank below) and eventually gave up. Tried Imperial and reached Lord (one rank below Baron) and got stuck there too. I've been done 4 or 5 high/mid Fed reputation missions per night (in addition to submitting bounties in Fed stations) for the last week and will keep going until I get the promotion. I don't even want the Dropship, but I'm going to get the Ensign (and Baron too) ranks if it kills me!
I took on a smuggling mission for a Fed faction last night, I wasn't scanned and when I handed over the cargo my rep went up with that faction, but down with another Fed faction, and down with the Federation overall. I just want some indication I'm on the right track, and if not, what I need to do!
This is a neat idea really. I would like to see the game "start to come alive" because in many ways it often feel mechanical in nature. Little pieces like this can start to make the galaxy seem like a "living" entity.
