FD got their hands on DK2 already?

Well, with ED being called best OR experience so far...there's some truth to this kernel :)

This might actually become a problem. My DK2 won't arrive until august, since I ordered at a later time, but I'm somewhat concerned. So far I've only played 1.1 and when I compare the difference in immersion merely between a small monitor and a TV set and then 'try' to only 'imagine' what it possibly could be like with a Rift DK2 I'm starting to think, that some people might actually suffer physical injury or die simply from being hit by that much awesomeness.

Okay, I'm just so looking forward to this. ^^

Mine still says, Pending, your order is awaiting inventory.

I ordered it on the day it was announced. :S

I think everyone's does no matter when they ordered.
An Oculus rep dropped by FD's offices with a DK2 just so FD could check it out. They'd didn't get one to keep as far as I know.

Oculus hasn't announced any slippage so July is still on as far as we know.
No news on the DK2 delivery dates is good news, except when no news means they're hiding the bad news which isn't good news it's bad news. NEWS!

I have the same message on my order too. OR only took a $50 deposit out of my account so I guess when they get around to withdrawing the full amount it'll be an early indication that they're about to start shipping.

I didn't check elite with my DK1 yet. I will try in a week or two (maybe sooner). For some reason I still don't think that VR is how it should be to play elite. 1080p won't help. When OR gets 4K+ screen I will be more interested. Though I will still buy and try consumer version whatever the resolution (unless something better shows on the market which is doubtful).

Hi:
yeah i placed an order for the dk2 as well, so maybe you guys could answer a couple of questions?
how hard is it to hook up the dk1 to your computer? what kind of connection is it? usb?,serial?, etc.
and i wear glasses, have since i was eight, should i use the rift over my glasses or take off my glasses, and do you guys notice any eye strain after a long session?
thanks for your help guys, I just couldent pass this up.

I really want a DK2 kit. I guess I'll order one now. Nothing better to do whilst waiting for the Beta... The Sony headset looks pretty good too mind you. Any thoughts ?
Gary.

Sony one is initially at least ps4 only. If your PC is half decent, even if the ps4 headset is good, the vrvexperience will still be better on a PC imo

IIRC (I sold mine) DK1 had a control box, which is gone for DK2. It plugged into the PC via USB and HDMI. While the box is gone, the connections are the same. I'm not sure where the external camera plugs in, presumably yet another USB.

You can wear glasses with the Rift as I've done so but it came with 3 sets of lenses before (I think the new one only comes with 2) that worked for some people. Wearing glasses with it is a bit of a chore, but possible, and if you have big ones (fnarr) then it may be very awkward. Fogging can also a bit of an issue at times, although once everything's warmed up it's okay.

Not noticed eye strain personally, but I'm guessing it must hit at some point. Your eyes are working as it's true 3D, so they're refocusing all the time. So it's not like staring at a 2D screen for hours, it feel less eye strainy to me, in that sense.

They do not show it in most presentation videos, but there is a small box between the tracking camera and the Rift. (The camera needs to have a connection to the PC and also a direct link to the rift as it may seem.)

When it comes to hooking it up: shouldn't be too difficult. It has already been officially confirmed that the Rift stays slightly below the 500 Milliampere limit defined in the USB standard. So even if your USB ports have no tolerance for higher drain (which most have AFAIK) it wouldn't cause any problems. Also it only needs USB 2.0.

The Video part is HDMI. However the display is a smartphone thingie which does not take 1920 x 1080, but 1080 x 1920. This won't cause any problems if you use the rift as intended, but AFAIK it's a bit tricky with stuff like mirroring to a 1920 x 1080 display and also won't work with certain inexpensive capture solutions that one might want to hook in between PC and Rift. (For example a Hauppauge HD PVR 2 can handle 1080p, but not 1080 x 1920.)

Though, since I don't have my DK2 yet and never had a DK1, that's only what I read. ;)

I have been thinking about this myself, it may be a bit of a pita for me. At the moment I run my PC hooked up to my amp via HDMI ..... My amp then outputs to my TV.

It is also hooked up to a 2nd screen via dvi.

My GPU has only 1 HDMI out.

My amp only has 1 HDMI out as well...

So I guess I will have to faff around unplugging stuff every time I use the rift which is a shame as all my cabling is trunked in.

Unless I am missing something....
Any ideas?

Does the Rift take a DVI connection? If so, use that output from your GPU.
