FD, Please Please fix the damn sync issues..... this is getting to the point that it's, unplayable!

Sounds like one or more of you has a poor internet connection.

To aid forming the wing try text chat with the players first. Once you are winged up it helps if you all change instance.

If you are rubber banding once winged up (due to one of you having a poor connection) then I don't think FD can do much about that.


Yoy can test this by winging up one at a time and seeing if you gave more issuea with one particular person.

I don't have issues winging up or with rubber banding atm.

My connection is fine for BF4, CSGO and most other online games. It cannot handle more that 3 or 4 players in elite. The netcode needs sorting.

We tried this (in fact the text chat buffer in the last screen shot shows this) as for the connection, we can join any other on line game (Arma III, Racing, Flight sim's (and fly in tight formation) so it is not the connections!

It took us over 1 hour to get the wing sync'ed up with 4 Players in a private group? And you bill this a massive multi player?

Once we got sync'ed the warps were so bad it was impossible to play!

then we get this type of crap when trying to collect the combat bonds.....

BF4, CSGO and most other online games use a client server system that only relies on the connection to the server to be good to have a general good game, where as a P2P model relies on the lowest common denominator (the worst performing network connection) of the whole group to maintain synchronisation. E.G. P2P is terrible compared to Client-server.

It is the coding.
Unfortunately, FD have little knowledge of MMO group mechanic structure, people who do are highly sought after in the gaming industry and unfortunately FD did not seem to grasp the current model many MMO's are using, or tried to emulate it and failed. ( sorry but it's true )
Tear the current model down and snatch some coders who know how to do it, it would be a massive boost for sales to get this part right.

Explaining this on the forums is like trying to sell coal to coal miners.


On the plus side, with some basic chat software the game can still be very MMO "pretendish".
With ranking sorted out and the combat a little harder, things are looking up.
Dont hold your breath for a working group play that is easy to use due to the current lack of any real ingame world / server chat.
I also have come across a mountain of bugs while grouping, to fix the current structure would be a monumentous task.
Far quicker to tear it down and use a more modern system.

I do rate this game quite highly now, many things have changed, many been fixed and enough content to keep most happy.

Our faction managed to get two wings together last night and no matter what we tried, the two wings couldn't see each other. And it took us ages to organise the time to meet etc, we were all in different countries.

I didn't say it was your connection that was the issue.

I have winged often with 3 others without issues (once we sussed how to get winged up in the first place - which is currently a little clunky to say the least).

The ED P2P model + server model is more susceptible to one persons connection issues than a client/server model (like bf4 where the server is in control of all the other connections afaik). No way would I want my game account under the control if a 3rd parties server so this model is better IMO.

This could be tested by people who are experiencing issues winging up with people who don't?

One thing to try is winging up 1 by 1 so try with 2 of you and play for a while to see if you have any issues then try with a different person. THat way you can see if there is an issue with one of the connections.
 
These errors are caused by instancing problems, unfortunately some of us live quite a way from our friends and relatives so connecting up on a matchmaking service that tries to get local people in the instance causes issues. Tack onto those issues the 32 player max limit then you run into a wall of problems. Ive been doing networking and networking games since 1989 and I would never have used instancing for Elite mainly as its to prone to hacks and cheats FDEV will always be on the back foot to these people, a server/client model is waaay more secure and much more harder for the basic script kiddie to hack. Unfortunately the Server/Client model has one downside and that simply is you have to have a server that is capable of running the game and a game with 400 billion systems would need a BIG server indeed.

my thoughts on the whole thing is instance players groups first, friends second and everyone else third this way at least they can be matched with their mates, if a friend joins FSD a NPC and let them into the instance this would solve loads of issues

We did this and it makes no diffrence,
this has been reported so many times its not funny, to be honest, Opening a ticket for it so far as not helped. i.e. if you get a reply, its 4@5 weeks later! with the standard, we know about this issue, or are you still having this issue, and the ticket gets closed.

This needs work, can't play with a single friend without getting dropped out of each others instance at least once every hour.
