...But I think Elite will still come out on top!

Fancy visuals mean nothing if the gameplay isn't good, and from the link wow, SC has some awesome visuals. But the thing I noticed is that the game seems to take place in real time, which has the potential to make it a time suck that really slows down progress. Over 15 minutes just to meet with the guy who is offering a mission...that's crazy. I'm ready though to put in the time if the game is as awesome as Elite. If you get SC be prepared to invest a LOT of time. Lots of people will enjoy the pacing (I do as well), but I hope there's some frenetic moments as well, like in the video. I think it will be not possible to play both Elite and SC; something will gotta give. But I spent too much time getting King/Admiral/all engineers to just walk away. Dilemma.

Well, FDEV have two years of experience now in their game implementation etc. Granted, there are areas I wish were better - but SC has spent how much money? And what is available at the moment? It will be interesting to see how it is when the game is released, and I expect for a few weeks that many Elite players may go that way just to check it out. After that it depends on the quality of Elite and the quality of SC.

If it takes SC just as long as it has Elite to get things perfect then we will all be back playing Elite :D

And inb4 the moderator move the thread :D

Oh, there you are :)

I have SC, and barely touched it. No VR support (I'm not doing the goofy workarounds for it either), so little to no interest in it.

Sure. In maybe 3-4 years. When I stop falling through the floor of my ship for doing something as stupid as standing up. Or glitching out of a turret and being left hanging out in space.

I'm sure, eventually, Roberts will stop laughing hysterically over the amount of money he's gouged from people. And a game will ship.

But not any time soon. The scale, scope is far too rediculous for day one and they are still killing the schedule by pumping out endless ships to feed the machine.

dual universe and infinity might become serious competitiors long before SC even makes it out, No mans sky might even get multiplayer or other updates that make it something of a reasonable game before then as well

No they won't because Star Citizen is boring to play with their horrid flight model, ridiculous mouse aim (super powerful and way too easy to use gimbals with a mouse), terrible joystick support and lack of working Track IR.

It does look pretty good, truth be told.

If SC can ever get out of Alpha and ship something resembling a finished game. They promised Squadron 42 by the end of the year, but I doubt they will be able to deliver on it.

In the end I think ED and SC are sufficiently different games where they will actually complement each other rather then compete with each other. ED is more macro-simulation and SC is more micro-simulation.

Though the biggest thing to take away from this is that the genre seems to be exploding. There are the big dogs, ED and SC and NMS was an impressive showing by a small independent team with limited resources and time.

There are about 3-4 other sand-box style space "privateering" games currently under development by indy developers all of which bring unique things to the table. I'm glad that after a 20+ year hiatus this genre is exploding again... about time! :)
